The members of the barracks of the main post of Puerto Rico have celebrated the day of their patron saint accompanied by colleagues, friends and family.
Under the characteristic sun of the south of Gran Canaria and with the waving of the Spanish flag of the barracks presiding, the annual event that the Mogán Civil Guard celebrates in honor of the patron saint of the force took place: The Virgin of Pilar.
The event, which had not been held for two years due to the health crisis caused by Covid-19, was marked by the farewell of the barracks' lieutenant commander; Don Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral, who will leave his position at the beginning of 2023.
At approximately 12:45 the members of the Civil Guard arrived at the barracks after the celebration of the traditional mass on October 12, held in the ecumenical temple of Puerto Rico. The event began with the playing of the Spanish anthem followed by of the delivery of decorations, credentials and recognitions. The imposition of decorations was in charge of the authorities present: the mayor of Mogán, Doña Onalia Bueno García; the Senior Prosecutor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Doña Marisol Vidal Martínez and the Chief Inspector of the Maspalomas Police Station. Those awarded with the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Civil Guard Corps The following companions of the body were: Don José Juan Navarro Cubas, Doña Saida de los Ángeles Navarro Méndez and Don Juan Francisco Sánchez Cordero.
Next, the credentials were delivered to recognition of the professional work carried out, sacrifice, selflessness and for the performance of meritorious services carried out of different kinds in the municipality of Mogán to the colleagues of the Civil Guard corps; Don Rafael Herrera Suárez, Don Aday Guerra Gopar and Don Oliver López Benítez; in addition to the reports and reports unit of the Mogán Local Police and Don Manuel de Luis Herrera. The head of Civil Protection in the municipality of Mogán, Don Wenceslao Hernández Cruz, received the credentials of the body in recognition of his excellent professional work, collaboration with the Civil Guard body and the constant support of Civil Protection. An especially emotional moment was experienced with the presentation of the recognition to Doña Ana Delia Moreno Vega, in charge of the conservation and cleaning of the barracks since 1998 and a very loved person among the Mogán Civil Guard.
The awards ceremony ended with the recognition of Don Nicolás Villalobos Mestres; general director of the hotel chain Be Cordial for their collaboration in the Safe Tourism Plan, Don Isidro Alonso Viera and José Carlos Hernández Jiménez.
Immediately afterwards, Ms. Onalia Bueno García and Ms. Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral took the floor. The mayor of Mogán took advantage of her speech to thank the lieutenant of the barracks for the work done, especially during the 2020 migration crisis, and to wish that her successor would comply with the same professionalism and commitment. She has also called for the occupation of positions in the Civil Guard of Mogán, “Now that an opposition procedure for the Civil Guard has been opened with more than 1600 positions, we hope that the number of agents assigned to our municipality does not decrease. “
We do not demand anything special, just the same treatment as those towns in Spain in which the presence of Benemérita is reinforced.”, stated the mayor.
For his part, the Lieutenant of the barracks, Mr. Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral, has taken the opportunity to thank the expressions of affection shown in his last Pilar festivity as part of the Civil Guard body, as well as to also highlight the excellent work of the Benemérita and all the State Security Forces and Corps during the 2020 immigration crisis and the pandemic; “Thanks to them, it was possible to control and redirect, not without great efforts, the multiple complex situations that were presented to us every day, for which I reiterate my deepest gratitude to all”, commented the Lieutenant.
The event ended with an emotional floral offering to the members of the corps who had fallen in service and with the singing of the Civil Guard anthem, followed by a long applause from those present. After the completion of the ceremony, a family photograph from the barracks and a Spanish wine tasting were held for those attending the event.
In this way, an emotional event concluded after two years of absence and which would be the last of Mr. Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral as lieutenant of the barracks of the main post in Puerto Rico.
