The municipal political group PP-AV in the San Bartolomé́ de Tirajana City Council has proposed today, coinciding with the commemoration this week of the 60 years of tourist activity of the Maspalomas Costa Canaria destination, the formalization of a “great agreement” institutional and sectoral that transcend political acronyms to promote the necessary renewal and modernization of tourism in the South of Gran Canaria.
With this objective, PP-AV urges the City Council of San Bartolomé́ de Tirajana and the Cabildo of Gran Canaria to establish a cabinet of experts among recognized professionals in the sector to explore new technical and economic formulas to support the modernization of infrastructure and supply. complementary tourism, in addition to ensuring the viability and legal security of the projects.
“It is about overcoming once and for all the old modernization plans, which have almost all been rejected by the courts, and opting for new ways to improve the current operation of the Maspalomas Consortium, because we cannot waste any more time if we want to increase the quality and competitiveness of our destination,” explains Elena Álamo , spokesperson for the PP-AV municipal group.
PP-AV emphasizes the importance of decisively betting on innovation and undertaking this tourist renewal of Maspalomas Costa Canaria from an environmentally friendly perspective “so that the destination is increasingly sustainable, greener and more humane, in in tune with what tourists who choose Gran Canaria to enjoy their holidays increasingly demand.”
The main opposition party regrets that neither the City Council nor the Cabildo of Gran Canaria "have given the importance it deserves to this anniversary", with a program of events "that does not honor the enormous importance that the initiative had in its day "Maspalomas Costa Canaria for the take-off of tourism in San Bartolomé́ de Tirajana, until today it becomes the main tourist destination in the Canary Islands and one of the most important in the world."
In this sense, PP-AV gives as an example the celebration in 2012 of the 50th anniversary, "when the City Council of San Bartolomé́ de Tirajana, with Marco Aurelio Pérez as mayor, dedicated itself to the commemoration of the half century of this tourist milestone" with the presence of representatives of the sector, businessmen, tour operators, travel agencies, hotel directors, restaurant and service companies and hospitality workers.
Among the events organized by the southern City Council on that occasion, it is worth highlighting the inauguration in the San Agustín roundabout of the sculpture 'La Estaca', a monument designed by the artist Pepe Dámaso as a replica of the original stake that was placed on December 15. October 1962, or the baptism of a Binter company plane with the name Maspalomas Costa Canaria.
