The leader of the Gran Canaria party in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana highlights that his party, UxGC, “is essential for the resurrection of the economic engine of the island”
United for Gran Canaria in San Bartolomé de Tirajana held an event this Friday night, October 14, in which the party's local headquarters was publicly inaugurated, in the Plaza del Tablero.
More than 100 people attended the event, in a show of support for the local group, the Unidos por Gran Canaria (UxGC) project and the candidate for Mayor of the municipality, the businessman Ramón Ramos García, in an act that showed that The party is in an important moment of growth.
This was highlighted by the island secretary, Carmen León, who recalled the words of Antonio Gala, “home is the place where one is expected,” to which she added: “A home is that place where you are needed, where you put down roots to work.” She then introduced the president of Unidos por Gran Canaria in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Ramón Ramos, whom she described as “a person of values, who cares about his neighbors,” and who “will be responsible for placing the municipality in its rightful position.”
For his part, the leader of the Gran Canaria party expressed his “concern about the neglect and degradation that the most important tourist municipality in Gran Canaria has suffered,” and defended the “need to recover the economic engine” that has been “one of the most important tourist destinations in Europe.”
In this regard, he focused on "the stagnation of the tourism sector in recent years, which has gradually lost its attractiveness and has condemned the sector to increasingly scarce and poorer quality tourism." And he added that the “abandonment of the few garden areas, the deplorable state of the old shopping centers, the lack of services for tourism on the beaches, the scarce police resources, green areas, and a long etcetera of shortcomings, reminds us of the "the need to open the doors to an investment aimed at quality tourism, which also generates opportunities for the citizens of San Bartolomé de Tirajana."
“The time has come to get involved with the people of Gran Canaria and with the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana,” he declared, “which is at grave risk of economic and social collapse.” He concluded his remarks by emphasizing that “the only party with a project for Gran Canaria that addresses the needs of this land is Unidos por Gran Canaria.”
Present at the event were his colleagues from the Local Council of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, including the secretary, Daniel Girones Artiles, and the vice president, Antonio Rivero López, the members, Ovelecia Huerta García, Luis López Rodríguez, Juana Ramona Romano Padilla and Isidro Ramos García.
The event was closed by the island president, Lucas Bravo de Laguna, who in his speech expressed his “pride in having a new headquarters in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, one of the most important municipalities not only in Gran Canaria, but in all of the Canary Islands.” He also emphasized that they are presenting a team with which “the residents of the municipality will identify, and which, above all, will contribute to its prosperity . It is a shame that the largest municipality on the island, with more than 50.000 inhabitants,” he stressed, “suffers from the neglect and mismanagement of recent decades, not only in tourism, but also in other areas that seriously affect the residents who live here.”
The leader of Unidos por Gran Canaria did not want to conclude his speech without taking the opportunity to highlight “the growth of UXGC, as well as the ability to bring together highly valuable people.”
Finally, Lucas Bravo de Laguna announced that they will be announcing the formation of new local councils across the island in the coming days. “Next week we will have an Island Council meeting in Arucas,” he stated, and, as a new development, he concluded that “ in November they will present their candidate for the Gran Canaria Island Council.”
