Maspalomas24h Friday, October 21 from 2022

More than 160 artisans, farmers, agri-food producers and NGOs will occupy the 150 positions located on Avenida de Canarias this year.

Los Gofiones, Los Sabandeños and Yeray Rodríguez participate again in this fair, which will take place from November 4 to 6 in Vecindario

The Southeast Fair celebrates its second event this year next weekend. After having settled in the Cruce de Arinaga last June, the 18th edition returns to Vecindario with 163 artisans, farmers and agricultural producers who "will once again make their kilometer 0 products available to all of Gran Canaria."

The president of the Commonwealth of the Southeast and mayor of Ingenio, Ana Hernández, detailed today during the presentation of this annual event, that this edition will bring together 111 artisans, 36 agri-food producers, 10 farmers and 6 NGOs, that is, more than 160 participants of the region that, "after the pandemic, show that they want to continue participating in this type of events in which they can show and put their products for sale."

The mayor also highlighted the good relationship and joint work carried out by the three municipalities that make up the Southeastern Commonwealth in supporting the primary sector and local products. In that sense, the Southeast Fair aims to be a showcase of what is grown and produced in the southeast of Gran Canaria, “a support for our local product, our supply and our sustainability.”

Proof of this good relationship between the three municipalities that make up the Commonwealth is the gesture of the current president of the Commonwealth during the presentation of the fair held today, when she gave the spotlight to the mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, for be the host municipality of this edition of the fair.

The mayor of Santa Lucía valued the work of the artisans and producers of the municipality who will attend the fair with products made “with great care” and invited attendees to take advantage of the celebration of the fair to see the museums of the municipality, such as the Museum of the Zafra, the Gofio or the Salinas de Tenefé, “which reflect the tradition of products that can be purchased at the fair.”

For his part, the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, invited citizens to “share this spectacle, this party that is the celebration of the Southeast Fair” which, with the celebration next weekend of its 18th edition, “ It shows that it is not a coincidence", but rather the result of "firm and joint work of the three municipalities and the Commonwealth."

Much more than a sample of local product

As in the previous edition, the municipalities of Santa Lucía, Agüimes and Ingenio will have 50 stands each where producers and artisans from each locality will have the option of displaying their products and selling them directly to the attending public.

In this way, from November 4 to 6, the Avenida de Canarias in Vecindario will once again bring together a good part of the farmers, ranchers and artisans of the region who will occupy the 150 stalls to publicize the best km 0 products grown and made in the southeast of Gran Canaria.

Furthermore, during the three days of the fair, parties will go around the stands to encourage visitors, and the little ones will be able to entertain themselves with various activities, such as the Cancionero Isleño, which will offer twelve performances during the weekend, and the livestock exhibition, always attractive to young and old. Traditional games will also be present at the fair, with samples on Friday and Saturday afternoons and on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

One of the most successful activities during the weekend is 'Cooking the Southeast', with tastings of wines and cheeses, oils and pastries, cheeses and breads... The best restaurant professionals in the area will delight guests. visitors with their recipes based on typical products from the southeast.

The icing on the cake is the musical performances that will take place on the central stage of the fair: Los Gofiones, Los Sabandeños and the singer Yeray Rodríguez repeat in this edition in which Los Coquillos, Vocal7, Arístides and 101 Grand Brass also participate; and a presentation of distinctions to three outstanding producers and artisans.

All activities are free and open to anyone who wants to learn about the products of the land, and take the opportunity to take home a product to enjoy calmly or a sample of the best work of the area's artisans.

The Commonwealth of the Southeast of Gran Canaria expects to exceed the 100.000 people who attended the previous event, and to facilitate access for them, it has arranged up to five parking areas around Avenida de Canarias.

With the aim of supporting the recovery of producers, ranchers and artisans in the region and after its suspension due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the fair is now trying to regain its rhythm and be held again in the municipality that holds the presidency of the Commonwealth, which will be fulfilled in March of next year with the celebration of the 19th edition in Carrizal de Ingenio.
