Excursions in the south of Gran Canaria: Cepsa will supply TUI fuel

TUI and Cepsa have closed an agreement to promote the production and supply of sustainable fuel in tourist and aviation excursion buses (SAF), a key tool to continue reducing the carbon footprint of air transport and a priority for both companies in the fight against climate change. These biofuels will be produced with waste from circular raw materials that do not compete with food, such as used cooking oils or biodegradable waste from different sectors, and will reduce aircraft emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional kerosene. In the south of Gran Canaria, the supply will be provided by the Cepsa stations in Maspalomas.

TUI has been working for years to reduce its environmental footprint and its goal is to achieve net zero emissions trips by 2050. Currently, holiday flights continue to cause the most emissions in a trip. For this reason, TUI wants to increasingly rely on sustainable aviation fuel for its aircraft fleet in order to reduce the environmental footprint of its trips.

TUI works with important partners to implement its emissions reduction plans and has been collaborating with Cepsa for years. Spain, especially the Canary Islands, is one of the most important destinations for TUI Airlines. Cepsa supplies TUI not only with kerosene, and in the future SAF, but also fuel for buses in some destinations and for the group's cruises, two areas in which both companies will also collaborate to continue promoting decarbonization.

"Cepsa is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and that of its clients through the production of clean energy such as sustainable aviation fuel, which has proven capable of decarbonizing air transport. Agreements such as the one with TUI are crucial in this sense, not only for air transport, but also in our joint search for cleaner alternatives for other forms of travel," said Carlos Barrasa, director of Commercial & Clean Energies at Cepsa.

For Tobi Pardo, Director of Aviation and Asphalt at Cepsa, this new alliance is "to move towards a more sustainable air transport model and reinforces our commitment to offering increasingly low-carbon solutions to our clients. We want to travel this path together with our clients." , with whom we share a firm determination in the fight against climate change.
In November, TUI launches a broad sustainability agenda. Reducing the environmental footprint of travel will continue to be an essential part of TUI's commitment to sustainability, as will social and economic aspects.
