The Acebuches Trail, 'The people's race', returns this Sunday, October 30, with more than 600 registered adults and minors after the three-year break due to the health crisis. This morning at a press conference the details of this seventh edition of the sports event organized by the Acebuches Cultural and Sports Association with the collaboration of the municipalities of Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and various companies.
Once again, the Cercado de Espino soccer field will be the starting and finishing point of this competition that will begin at 9:00 a.m. with the queen distance, 16 kilometers, and also 26 kilometers, both with a positive slope of 1.000 meters. Likewise, the 10-kilometer distance will be held at 00:7 a.m., which has a slope of 500 meters and moderate complexity that favors the participation of people who are just starting out in this sport. The children's tests will take place at 9:15 a.m. with the participation of more than a hundred boys and girls.
Alejandro Araña, member of the Acebuches Trail Cultural and Sports Association, stated that “it has been difficult to put the machinery back in motion because the event goes ahead due to the commitment of many people who agree.” Araña explained that the movement began a few months ago but that now the efforts have intensified and, just six days before the return of the test, he assures "we are all excited."
The race will take place through the mountains of Barranco de Arguineguín as well as through the neighborhoods of Las Filipinas, El Caidero, Cercados de Espino, Guriete, El Horno and El Sao, territories shared by the municipalities of Mogán and San Bartolomé de Tirajana, represented in the presentation ceremony by the mayor of the latter, Concepción Narváez, and the Sports councilors of both local administrations, Luis Becerra and Samuel Henríquez.
Becerra has invited “all lovers of these sports disciplines, such as mountain races, to enjoy a great day in the Barranco de Arguineguín.” For the mayor, the show "is served" thanks to an "organization that is always great and a post-race that is spectacular and makes the event gain a lot of value." “I think that administrations should be grateful that there are neighbors with this good work and instill it in the little ones, who follow in the footsteps of what their fathers and mothers do,” he said.
For his part, Narváez has expressed the positive aspects of events such as the Acebuches Trail that allow the sport to go hand in hand with "recovering paths that had been forgotten" and "recovering and reactivating areas and towns perhaps a little further away from everyday life."
The event, held in the municipal facilities of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, also had the presence of the runner from Telde Sandra Moreno and the popular Italian long-distance runner Luca Papi, who told of their experiences in this type of sporting events and how they face the Acebuches Trail this Sunday. Likewise, other members of the Acebuches Trail Cultural and Sports Association attended.
