Experts from the INCISEX Institute of Sexology point out that the new sexual education must abandon the “obsession with the genital and reproductive” and focus on knowledge

A fight against the bad guys. This is how sexologist Almudena Herranz describes her daily life as a member of the INCISEX Institute of Sexology when she responds to the call for help from any educational center. “They call us when there is a problem and we look like a rescue team,” she says ironically. “There is this notion of sexual education as a tool with which to fight against very bad things: we must educate about sexuality to avoid unwanted pregnancies, to avoid diseases or to prevent the massive consumption of pornography or gender violence.” ", Explain. But for the sexologist, sex is much more than a catalog of things that can be done and things that cannot be done. And therein lies the strength of a new concept that is being imposed among the educational community: Education of the Sexes. Sex was talked about on the second day of the I Reeducation Forum; New Challenges, New Paradigms that are developed during these days at Expomeloneras. But sex was talked about in a new and brave way that, according to the members of the INCISEX Institute of Sexology, indicates the path that the new sexual education should take in the classrooms. And that is why they already talk about Education of the Sexes as a new model of improvement that focuses on knowledge as a prior measure to the traditional dichotomy of prevention and sexual health.

“We could be talking about the same thing but it is not the same,” adds sexologist Samuel Díez. "But it is not the same because this new Education of the Sexes comes to face a series of problems that derive from the conception of sexual education under a moral prism that has been conditioned for many years." And for this expert, the key to this new vision comes from overcoming the genital and reproductive aspects as axes of sexual education that enters the classrooms. “We talk about reproduction and multiplication of the species; But everything responds to cultural and moral conditioning that prevents us from going further. There are three ways of understanding sexuality: as a method of reproduction, as a source of pleasure or as a germ of discrimination, oppression and exclusion. With the education of the sexes, these previous conditions are put to an end,” says Díez.

For the technicians at the INCISEX Institute of Sexology, the new paradigm comes to overcome “some very specific content that has always been very outdated,” explains Díez. This new model, she adds, focuses the discourse on individuals. “It includes what is left out. The methodology focuses on people beyond phenomena, anomalies or alarms”

And the boys and girls know. “We are committed to focusing everything on what minors do that we forget what minors know and they know much more than what they do,” says Almudena Herranz. “They are the ones who want us to talk about something else and are tired of sexual education that only focuses on those two aspects: the genital and the reproductive,” she says. For the sexologist, the new Education of the Sexes comes to overcome that vision of keeping students safe from “the bad guys.” And it focuses on a reality. “That we are all sexual beings and we remain so throughout our lives,” says Samuel Díez. “Preventive education has a vision of sex as something full of dangers; and the new model affects the promotion of values. Sex is something very valuable. It is not a dangerous field that you have to be afraid of.”
