The Government of the Canary Islands is a whole box of surprises. The director of Puertos Canarios is the one who proposes what will be decided on the granting of tourist use or not of the space that is shared 50% between the Masaveu groups and the Brazilian Votorantim Cimentos (which in the Canary Islands owns Cementos Teide). Tourist groups such as Cordial Hotels are demanding the end of the concession, but Puertos Canarios has had the renewal of the concession submitted to a public file since the end of last October. Is he from the PSOE? Not at all, more about CC than anything else or, at least, it has occupied a good part of its power in the orbit of CC in the public sector.
At the outset, one thing must be highlighted. The Minister of Public Works is from the PSOE, Sebastián Franquis, but the director of Puertos Canarios has been in his position since 2017, that is, he is from the Canary Coalition, and was a trusted person of the Minister of Public Works, Pablo Rodríguez (CC), during the time of Fernando Clavijo as president. Puertos Canarios fell into the orbit of the La Gomera ASG party in 2019 and, since then, has faithfully fulfilled the interests of La Gomera. In fact, the president of Puertos Canarios was the one in charge of CC and the current manager under the discipline of CC now with ASG is still its manager. Since 2019 he has only spoken in resolutions or some social events related to the ports in the Santa Cruz de Tenerife orbit.
It's legal. The last time Manuel Víctor Ortega Santaella made his assets public was in 2017, when he took possession with CC that same year. He is legal, given that since he has not been dismissed and subsequently appointed, he has no obligation to formalize this procedure. And how much assets does he declare? 32.500 euros, 4.000 euros in jewelry.
Ortega Santaella has a degree in Economics and Business Sciences from the University of La Laguna and has been director of Mobility of the Cabildo of Tenerife, vice president and CEO of TITSA and Teleférico de Tenerife between 2007 and 2017, president of the Tenerife Firefighters Consortium between 2007 -2011, self-employed businessman in the period of the real estate bubble until 2006 and head of administration at Hospitén between 1993 and 1996, among others.
