The 150 stalls of artisans and producers from Agüimes, Ingenio and Santa Lucía closed today the 18th edition of the Southeast Fair with the satisfaction of having been able to show 125.000 people the products of the land and the work done with care.

This weekend, Avenida de Canarias has once again been the epicenter of the best display of local products and the work of dozens of artisans from the southeast of Gran Canaria, who keep Canarian traditions alive through basketry, pottery, and cutlery. and draft, among many other disciplines.

Cooking samples, tastings, livestock and children's activities invaded the open commercial area of Vecindario and its surroundings this weekend to delight neighbors and curious onlookers who were able to purchase the best local products directly from their producers.

The final touch of this fair was provided by Yeray Rodríguez and Los Gofiones, a Gran Canaria folklore group that, once again, animated the public with their traditional music. The timples and bandurrias aroused applause from the public which gave way to the true protagonists of the fair, the artisans, farmers and producers who for years have contributed with their work to the conservation of Canarian traditions and the development of the region of southeast.

In an emotional act, the Commonwealth of the Southeast of Gran Canaria this year recognized, posthumously, the traditional potter of Santa Lucía Lucas Calderín, who recently died, a faithful defender of the Southeast Fair for more than 15 years with his unique works of mud. The organizers of this massive event also rewarded the contribution of the Ingenio artisan Isabel María Ordoñez, for her work with traditional ceramics and specifically, for her particular personalization of ceramic tiles on which she depicts traditional scenes, facades of emblematic houses or landscapes of the island, among many other reasons.

Finally, the Southeast Commonwealth also highlighted the trajectory of the Viña Aguayro Winery, in Agüimes, a family business that has been able to maintain quality in wine production, thanks to generational change.

With these well-deserved recognitions seasoned with the improvisations of the verser Yeray Rodríguez, the 18th Southeast Fair has said goodbye until the next edition, number 19, which will take place in March 2023 in Carrizal de Ingenio.

The verser also dedicated some improvised verses to the Association of Neighborhood Merchants and Industrialists (Ascoive), represented at the event by its treasurer Antonio Arbelo, in gratitude for having collaborated with the Commonwealth of the Southeast in the acquisition of 7.000 cloth bags distributed among those attending the Fair, to help the victims of the La Palma volcano. The Federation of Businessmen of La Palma (Fedepalma) and the Federation of Commerce of Gran Canaria (Fecogranca) have also collaborated in this initiative.
