The game develops the creativity and imagination of boys and girls, and playing as a family improves communication with parents. As part of the 'Bebécultura' program this week, workshops organized by the Department of Culture of the Santa Lucía de Tirajana City Council are being held in the Masía Catalana library.
This Wednesday the workshop is held with boys and girls from 0 to 3 years old and on Thursday and Friday it is with children from 3 to 6 years old. Fathers, mothers and education professionals also participate. The person in charge of the workshop, Priscilla Vela, highlights that “spaces are proposed where there is freedom of action so that boys and girls can generate games that are not conditioned by the material used.” From everyday materials such as blowers, wood, straw, fabrics, sand... constructions are made in a free and creative way.
Priscilla Vela, co-author of the book 'Loose Pieces, the Infinite Game of Creating' points out that “The games are usually very guided, because you always have to compete, or they are determined by the material because the car is for rolling, the house is for doll, but here a box can be a car or a house, it is the child's mind that works, and not the toy."
New technologies have many advantages, but the games are already programmed and there is little room for imagination. Although technology such as music, black light or overhead projectors is used. The person in charge of the workshop says that "we try to go to technological prehistory so that it is a more manageable context, when talking about loose parts the variables are isolated, the technology is offered in its purest form, a black light lamp, a flashlight or some overhead projectors.”
