The Canarian Coalition in the Parliament of the Canary Islands has committed to the regional Minister of Justice, Julio Pérez, that the courts in the south of Gran Canaria have the capacity to improve their infrastructure and services. In the short term, a rented premises will be sought, coinciding with the creation of two new courts in the judicial district of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and the corresponding file for leasing the premises has been initiated.
In this location it is planned not only to locate the two newly created judicial bodies, but also to move two of the currently existing courts in the main building, which is intended to free up space in said currently overcrowded building. With this release of space, saturation problems can be alleviated and the building can be provided with services such as viewing rooms and adequate waiting spaces for citizens. Furthermore, this transfer of courts will allow the reform of the freed spaces before they are used for the corresponding purpose. In 2023, the Government of the Canary Islands will launch the construction specifications for a new judicial building annexed to the existing one.
There is a plot adjacent to the current building on which the construction of a new judicial building, of similar dimensions to the current one, is intended. Said building, once
built will temporarily house the courts located in the main building, in order to undertake its renovation. The final objective is to have two adjacent buildings that will double the existing space, solving space problems and allowing future growth. To this end, in 2023, the corresponding project competition will be processed, thereby initiating the process for the construction of the building. .”
The Ministry of Public Administrations, Justice and Security has indicated that "it is imperative to resolve the serious problems of space and saturation suffered by the building headquarters of the courts of this judicial district, which translates into difficulties in having courtrooms, the absence of adequate waiting spaces for
citizens, serious deficiencies in the spaces designated for identification parades, cells, etc.
