With two underground floors and 507 seats, it will remain open 24 hours a day under the management of the municipal corporation Mogán Gestión Municipal SL. On its surface, an 8.000-square-meter public plaza with recreational and sports spaces for children is already available.
The underground parking building in Arguineguín is now a reality. This Wednesday, November 9, the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, and members of the Government group, officially inaugurated the facility, welcoming the first users of the parking service, whose main objective is to improve mobility and respond to the parking problems in an urban center as busy daily as this town. The first half hour of use is free.
The first stone was laid on August 30, 2018 and, despite the “up and downs”, as the mayor has described them, this infrastructure, the largest investment with municipal funds in the history of Mogán, is now fully operational .
Bueno made reference to those difficulties overcome since the beginning of the processing of the file, whose procedure was debated in the municipal plenary sessions. In the previous legislature, he explained, it was approved by the coalition government formed by CIUCA and PSOE – being rejected by the PP and Nueva Canarias – but when in 2019 the contract had to be terminated with the first company awarded – it presented a tender creditors due to their economic problems–, and made improvement modifications to the project, increasing the execution budget, the PSOE went on to vote against.
“Fortunately we were able to carry out the vote in the plenary session, because otherwise we would have had to paralyze the work,” he said, emphasizing that “the entire file has been voted against by PP and Nueva Canarias” and blaming NC for the delay it may have had. the work "for all the resources it has filed with other administrations, all resolved favorably towards the City Council."

Bueno has assured that we are not only facing the most important work in terms of investment but also "mobility strategy." The parking lot is attached to the Social Services building, the Health Center and the IES Arguineguín, in addition to being located a few meters from the Pérez Galdós square, the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, the Municipal Offices, the Nursery School and the CEIP Playa de Arguineguín and Artemi Semidán.
For the mayor, with the launch of this service “mobility in Arguineguín will change” and, together with the opening of the GC-500 again to two-way traffic at the end of November, “it will allow the lower part of "The town can be more pedestrian-friendly, so that greater wealth is generated for businesses in the area and new ones are implemented."
“We have gained 507 parking spaces compared to the little more than 200 that were on a tarred esplanade,” he stated. All these plazas are distributed in two underground levels that can be accessed by vehicle through Chicago and Damascus streets. However, those who wish to do so on foot have access on Gazmira, Arminda, Damascus, and Chicago streets. The latter has also been equipped with a pedestrian staircase that connects the GC-500 area, the town's main road, with the parking lot and the public square.
Of the total spaces, fourteen are intended for people with reduced mobility (PMR) and another fourteen for electric charging vehicles. There are also eleven spaces for motorcycles, although a dozen more will be added soon. Basement 1 uses the rotation system, with the first half hour of use being completely free. From then on, 7 euros per minute must be paid between 00:16 a.m. and 00:0,0167 p.m., which is the same, 1 euro per hour. For those who park from 16:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the rate will be 0,0125 euros per minute, that is, 75 cents per hour.
Basement 2 is for the exclusive use of subscribers, since this car park is the only one in the municipality, which in addition to being managed, operated and administered by the City Council itself through its commercial company Mogán Gestión Municipal SL, makes it available to the citizenship monthly subscriptions, which today have been proven to enjoy great acceptance. Seven minutes after the official opening of the car park, there were already 21 people subscribed and two hours later there were more than 66.
Specifically, a monthly subscription of 14 hours a day is established – from 7:00 a.m. to 21:00 p.m., flexible and without reservation of a place – for 30 euros per month; a night one from 16:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. – including 24-hour weekends, without reservation – also at 30 euros; the 24-hour monthly fee for motorcycles is 30 euros and the monthly fee for other vehicles is 50 euros.
Public plaza of 8.000 square meters
During the tour they were shown the office, where they were welcomed by the four new employees, and the toilets, as well as the multiple exits to the surface via stairs and an elevator. Likewise, the area of 8.000 square meters generated on the roof of the underground building, in which leisure and recreation areas have been created for families, who from today can enjoy a large playground and attractive games such as ludo and giant chess, a road circuit for bicycles and skateboards, areas for practicing sports and calisthenics. Green areas have also been created and pergolas have been installed to generate shade and urban furniture for relaxation.
On this plot, the installation of a 500 square meter building is being completed that will have a multifunctional use that will adapt at all times to the type of activity that is to be held there. It will be able to host all kinds of cultural shows, presentations and even painting and photography exhibitions. The building will be very versatile since it will have retractable stands.
“Once the Partial Plan of Loma de Pino Seco is definitively published, it will mean that in the next legislature Arguineguín will have the library on this roof in good condition and with the Artistic Schools,” the mayor reported, referring to the already approved plan. project that will be called the Arguineguín Studies and Art Center.
“What we are doing is building a city for everyone,” he stated, insisting that “medium-sized municipalities deserve large works.” Bueno has referred to the decision taken more than four years ago to present the Consistory on its own and not through the Cabildo the parking project to the call of the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN). In this way, the City Council received 5 million euros directly for this action in which a total of 12.685.238,16 euros have been invested. “Now town councils like Gáldar and Tejada, among others, have followed our path,” he expressed.
The mayor has expressed her gratitude to all the residents and merchants for the patience shown during the years that the work has lasted.
