PP-AV demands from the quadripartite government the urgent construction of the socio-health center for the elderly and dependent people in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

PP-AV Monday, November 21, 2022

The main opposition group remembers that the previous PP-AV government team, headed by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, drafted the project to build next to the fire station a 'social health center for the elderly and care for dependent people in units convivial and day center' with more than 180 places

The PP-AV municipal group in the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has once again demanded today that the four-party government fulfill its commitments and begin with the greatest urgency the construction of a socio-health center in the municipality, "a project that should be an absolute priority to respond to the demands of the neighbors but that has been abandoned by the mayor and her government team.”

The PP-AV spokesperson, Elena Álamo, denounces that the quadripartite government “has done absolutely nothing in these three and a half years of mandate to promote the construction of a socio-health center for the elderly and dependent people of the municipality, except deceive neighbors with false promises and divert responsibility towards the Cabildo to cover up its alarming lack of management.”

The main opposition group remembers that the previous PP-AV government team, headed by Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez, drafted a project before the end of the mandate to build a 'social health center for the elderly and care for dependent people in units convivial and day center' with more than 180 places.

The project, which was to be carried out on a plot of 6.798 square meters located in front of the municipal market, next to the fire station, contemplated the construction of a three-story building to house a center for seniors in communal units to guarantee the maximum independence of users (62 places) and two day centers for people with Alzheimer's (60 places) and with cognitive capacity (60 places).

"We left you the drafted project to build a modern building equipped with top quality services, with individual rooms, therapeutic gardens and large common spaces, but the four-party government rejected it out of pure sectarianism and the residents of San Bartolomé de Tirajana are still waiting today for its socio-health center, which we are going to execute when we return to government next May,” says Elena Álamo.

Outside the II Social and Health Infrastructure Plan of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria

It is worth remembering that in July 2020, after putting the previous project in the drawer, the Plenary approved a file of declaration of urgency and public need to transfer to the Cabildo of Gran Canaria another municipally owned plot in San Fernando de Maspalomas, where the institution Insular was going to be in charge of building the center within the II Social and Health Infrastructure Plan.

However, two and a half years later, nothing has been heard about this proposal, except that the Island Council has not included this action in its II Social and Health Infrastructure Plan, which contemplates the construction of 22 centers – none in San Bartolomé of Tirajana - and more than 1.500 places distributed in other municipalities on the Island.

"We demand that the mayor and her government team not continue lying to the residents of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and that they get to work once and for all so that the construction of the socio-health center becomes a reality as soon as possible, since each time they are plus families with few resources who demand a public social and health care place to be able to care for their elderly and dependent people,” concludes Elena Álamo.
