Commitment and support to combat and eradicate violence against women in SBT

MASPALOMAS24H Thursday, November 24 from 2022

The plenary session of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council today approved, among other matters, the motion presented by the Socialist Group consisting of joining all the elected officials present, on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the next 25 N, “to the commitment and support of the Municipal Corporation to combat and eradicate sexist violence in defense of equality, freedom and security of women,” as Mayor Conchi Narváez expressed during the plenary session.

The first councilor stressed "the commitment of this Corporation to the care and reparation of the victims of sexist violence, also keeping in mind the daughters and sons who were orphaned after suffering the loss of their mother."

In fact, that was the reason that led to promoting Organic Law 2/2022 that improves the protection of orphans victims of gender violence and also this year 2022 the central Government has worked to ensure that the Registration Law Civil Code makes it easier for sons and daughters who are victims of violence to change their paternal surnames.

Narváez recalled during the session that so far this year, 2 women have been murdered as victims of gender violence in the Canary Islands. Of the calls made to the 112 Violence Service, 12.501 calls have been recorded between January and October of this year; Of these, 284 referred to violence suffered by women over 65 years of age.

Almost 2 million complaints indicate the high number of women victims of sexist violence who have taken a step forward to get out of this situation. Currently, there are almost 75.000 active cases in VIOGEN and more than 42.000 women have police protection.

Since 2005, more than 125.000 women have been in the ATENPRO Service for care and protection for victims of gender violence.

Like every November 25, the municipal Socialist Party joins the commitment of millions of women and men challenged by justice and equality who on a day like today raise their voices against sexist violence.
