The president of the entity and mayor of Ingenio, Ana Hernández, considers what accounts will allow the Commonwealth to “consolidate our environmental commitment through investments in renewable energy”
The Commonwealth of the Southeast of Gran Canaria has approved the budget for 2023, which amounts to 28.408.358,82 euros. In the words of the president of the entity and mayor of Ingenio, Ana Hernández, “these accounts will allow us to consolidate our environmental commitment through investments in renewable energy, also in concrete actions against climate change.” “These are budgets with which we will continue to improve the services we offer to citizens,” she assured.
The bulk of the budget will be allocated to current expenses on goods and services – more than 26,6 million euros –, which include current expenses and maintenance of infrastructure related to the water cycle, which amount to more of 2,5 million, as well as the costs of supplies (8,5 million) and the item of miscellaneous expenses, which includes protocol events, promotional campaigns, courses and legal expenses, among others (1,3 million).
On the other hand, the concept of repair, maintenance, machinery, installation and tools will have an amount of 65.000 euros and the maintenance and conservation of the vehicles that provide general services and office and computer equipment will involve an expense of 85.000 euros.
In addition, in 2023 the entity will have more than 306.000 euros to compensate the workforce and civil servants who carry out their work in the Commonwealth, including Social Security costs and the costs of training and development of personnel.
The budget approved for 2023 also highlights the amount of 13 million euros allocated to work carried out by companies and professionals external to the Commonwealth of Municipalities, as well as the contributions of the entity to the Local Development Agency and the town councils, for a value of just over 600.000 euros.
The real investments chapter will have a budget of more than 1,1 million euros to cover the expenses related to the cooperation plans with the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, both for the photovoltaic installation in the desalination and water purification system, such as for the installation of LED luminaires in Ingenio and Santa Lucía de Tirajana, and also in public buildings.
credit modification
On the other hand, the Southeastern Commonwealth has approved a modification of the current 2022 budget through an extraordinary credit of 8,8 million euros to cover certain expenses that cannot be delayed until next year and that do not have sufficient credit in the current budget.
Among them is, for example, the expansion of the seawater desalination plant by 5.000 m3 a day, a project that will be developed in agreement with the Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC) and that will allow us to go beyond 33.000 m3 of water that is currently desalinated daily at 38.000 m3. This expansion, which will cost the Commonwealth 5,2 million euros in 2023, will allow the region to have 1.825.000 m3 annual desalinated water.
The Commonwealth will also undertake the expansion of charging points for electric vehicles, for an amount of 240.000 euros; the installations of the drinking water network and the sanitation network of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), for 1,6 and 1,8 million respectively; the acquisition or renovations of buildings and other constructions for an amount of 100.000 euros, as well as the acquisition of furniture, for a value of 50.000 euros.
These expenses will be borne by the remaining treasury for fiscal year 2021 that the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Southeast has and which amounts to 15.129.727 euros.
“These are priority projects for the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Southeast because they respond to the need to meet the demands that the growth of the population of the region entails,” said the president of the inter-municipal entity, Ana Hernández.
