Mogán once again demonstrated its qualities as a destination for outdoor sports this Saturday with the fifth edition of the Deboer Mogán Open Water. The recently rehabilitated and improved El Perchel beach debuted as the finishing point for the distances disputed, which also increased compared to previous years. More than 370 swimmers participated distributed over the distances of 11.000, 5.000 and 2.800 meters, with Enrique Mata being the winners of the queen event in the men's category and Ainhoa Santana in the women's category.
Playa de Mogán welcomed the participants of the distance of 11.000 meters, who left this fishing enclave at 9:15 a.m. heading to El Perchel beach along the Mogán coast, whose waters remained calm.

The first to cross the finish line was Enrique Mata from Club Swim & Train Maspalomas, who finished the journey in 2 hours, 29 minutes and 19 seconds. He was accompanied on the men's podium by Rafael Oshanahan (02:35:54), from Club de Natación Metropole, and Ioseba Mateos (02:35:58), from Ordizia KE. For his part, in the women's category, Ainhoa Santana, from Faynagua, won. who conquered the goal in 2 hours, 56 seconds and 55 seconds. Santana thus becomes three-time champion of this event, since she achieved victory in the 2019 and 2021 editions. She was followed in the classification by Ana Robayna (03:18:11), from the Las Palmas Swimming Club, and Gema Ferrón ( 03:30:22), from Salinas Car.

The next distance, 5.000 meters, was valid for the Canary Islands Open Water Cup of the Canarian Swimming Federation, taking place from 11:00 a.m., leaving from the beach of Puerto Rico. The men's gold was achieved by Abian Reina (01:02:40), while the silver and bronze went respectively to Ignacio Medina (01:07:10) from CN Las Palmas, and Héctor Manuel Hernández (01:08: 08), from CN Los Cristianos. In the women's category, first place was occupied by Elena Sarmiento (01:10:45) from Club Swim & Train Maspalomas, second by Isabel Valido (01:11:47) from CN Metropole, and third by Yaritza Nazaret Felipe (01:15). :47) from CN Las Palmas.

Around 12:00 it was the turn of the last distance, the shortest of the Deboer Mogán Open Water with 2.800 meters. The participants left Anfi beach, with first place for the men's Siro Gutiérrez (00:39:39), second place for Adrià Carabí (00:41:07) and third place for Luca Braun (0:43:35). from CD Bike GC South Triathlon. In the female, Carol Fernández (00:48:36), from CN Martiánez, took first position, Ester Marrero (00:49:01) from CN Las Palmas with second and Laura Pérez (00:49:09 ), also from CN Las Palmas, with the third.
This open water test promoted by the City Council has once again turned Mogán into the headquarters of the sports movement, and in the middle of December, a fact that was possible to verify on the beach of El Perchel with the progressive arrival of participants, who were encouraged by the public present. But also, because friends, family members, and those who wanted to spend the day in the area were able to join free tabata, indoor cycling, and aquagym sessions, all free and led by instructors from the Municipal Sports Service.
The Councilor for Sports, Luis Becerra, highlighted the "practically perfect" weather conditions, with about 20 degrees early in the morning and waters that "have been the pleasure of the more than 370 participants." He also highlighted the change in arrivals at El Perchel beach as very positive – until the last edition the finish line was at Las Marañuelas beach in the town. “It is a beach that has the perfect characteristics to host any type of sporting event and somehow the daily development of the residents is not disturbed because it is not necessary to make street closures,” he noted.
Likewise, he congratulated Top Time Eventos, the organizing entity, and thanked the Security and Emergency Corps, the volunteers who accompanied the athletes and sponsors at sea, highlighting Deboer as the main one. He also thanked the work of the Department that he leads as well as the other municipal departments involved. Along with Becerra, the Councilor for Health, Juan Carlos Ortega, enjoyed the sports day.
