More than 260 students from courses related to vehicle transportation and maintenance will benefit from this donation

The donated vehicles will help the students of the IES Ingenio and José Zerpa, from Santa Lucía, to update their knowledge about the operation of vehicles

The Commonwealth of the Southeast of Gran Canaria has today delivered four vehicles removed from circulation to two training centers in the region so that more than 260 students of technical cycles related to the transport and maintenance of motor vehicles can complement their theoretical training with practical resources .

Specifically, the students of the IES Ingenio and José Zerpa, from Santa Lucía, will have three electric vehicles - one of them donated by the Agüimes City Council - and one combustion vehicle, which "will allow the students of the region to update their mechanical knowledge." "They are preparing to be specialists in this field," said the president of the Commonwealth and mayor of Ingenio, Ana Hernández.

The vehicles have been removed from circulation in the Southeastern Commonwealth because the electric vehicles are 10 years old and the diesel ones are more than 25 years old, so now, “instead of being destroyed, they become an asset for training” , explained the president.

In that sense, the importance of this donation "lies fundamentally in recycling, but also reusing these vehicles that will undoubtedly do good in the future of many boys and girls who are training" in the institutes of the region.

The donation of these vehicles will especially benefit the students of the Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Specialization Course taught by the IES José Zerpa in Santa Lucía de Tirajana, the only center in the province of Las Palmas where this training cycle is taught; and to the students of the intermediate degree of Electromechanics of Automobile Vehicles taught at the IES Ingenio, who will be able to practice with an electric vehicle and another diesel vehicle.

Between the two centers they will be able to have three electric vehicles from the Renault Fluence brand and a Kia Sportage diesel, which students will be able to examine in depth to understand how their engines work, learn how to locate faults, work with batteries and safety systems. transmission, etc.

At the ceremony of handing over the vehicles, the president of the Commonwealth and the mayors of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, were accompanied by the directors of the centers that benefited from these vehicles, Santiago García, of the IES José Zerpa, and Francisca Muñoz, from IES Ingenio. Both were very grateful for accessing this type of resources that support the training and knowledge of the students of these cycles.

The director of the IES José Zerpa assured that this donation will allow the students to “do internships with vehicles that are not of an excessively old generation so that the students can work with the latest technologies on the market.” “It is quite difficult for educational centers to be able to afford the costs of an electric vehicle,” he added.

For her part, Francisca Muñoz, director of the IES of Ingenio, valued the possibility that the Commonwealth of the Southeast offers them to "commit to the innovation that is always required in vocational training", so the transfer of these vehicles represents "a access point to that innovation and that students can get closer to the reality of an electric car.”

“It is easy to find gasoline or diesel vehicles, but not so much electric cars that students can have in their hands to work with,” said the president of the Commonwealth, who considered it important that “future professionals in the field can learn about the breakdowns, how they work, what they have in their hands and how they can solve the problems they present.”
