The Socio-Cultural Center of Mayor de San Bartolomé de Tirajana today became a space for connecting technology and citizens, with the celebration of Mobile Week, coinciding with the celebration of the OECD Ministerial Conference on Digital Economy.

 

Students, businessmen and representatives of public and private institutions learned first-hand about the latest trends in the technological universe, their repercussions and challenges in different areas of life.

 

Chaired by the councilor for New Technologies of the council, Antonio Pérez, the day was officially opened, with the subsequent round table, titled 'Sustainability, green and digital transition - San Bartolomé de Tirajana'. Pérez highlighted the efforts of the southern City Council “for reducing the gap between new technologies and the user,” and highlighted “education as the basic element for families to take on the challenges posed by new technologies.”

For her part, Montse Guardia, Director of Strategy and head of the Society area at Mobile World Capital Barcelona, ​​said that it is the first time that San Bartolomé de Tirajana, the Canary Islands in general, holds a meeting of these characteristics, since our objective is to transfer the tools and knowledge of new technologies for the benefit and improvement of the lives of all citizens. Víctor Melián, general director of New Technologies of the Government of the Canary Islands, highlighted the need to "bring new technologies closer to ordinary citizens from simplicity." He urged "to take giant steps as soon as possible so that the Canary Islands can catch up in the use of the NNTT", while drawing attention to the fact that "this regional Government is already laying the foundations to attract the talent that has left for other destinations and that they return.”

 

“Our objective: A benchmark and sustainable tourist destination”

 

The round table entitled 'Sustainability, Green and Digital Transition' generated an interesting and innovative debate in which issues of sustainability and green and digital transition were addressed and the change of social and economic paradigm towards a model where digitalization is a tool of environmental protection.

 

They talked about it, in a table moderated by Olivia Blanchard, researcher at Digital Future Society, Ismael Arribas, collective entrepreneur, founder of KUNFUD and Convenor of ISO TC307 WG · Smart Contracts, Blue Future Organization; Lluís Torrent, expert in climate change and technology, and Antonio Pérez himself, Councilor for Innovation of the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council.

 

The mayor emphasized the current reality of one of the international benchmark municipalities as a tourist destination, "which we have to turn into a sustainable destination." Likewise, he referred to the environmental impact due to the population load that San Bartolomé de Tirajana supports, with 2 million overnight stays annually, to the need to reduce the use of fossil energy and energy poverty.  

 

Pérez described the numerous initiatives and strategies implemented by the Corporation to achieve these sustainability objectives as soon as possible in all aspects.

 

Workshops: Responsible use of social networks

 

In parallel with this round table, students from different educational centers in the municipality participated, in the morning and afternoon, in different workshops aimed at raising awareness about the responsible and safe use of ICT among Spanish children and young people.

 

The objective is to enhance the capabilities of young people as digital natives in favor of the responsible use of information and communication technologies, through the prevention and detection of risk situations on the Internet and on Social Networks.

 

During 60 minutes of class and through games and educational activities, the children learned about the importance of this responsible and safe use of information technologies used on computers, tablets and smartphones, while still making the most of their possibilities.

Aimed at professionals and SMEs in the municipality, the information conference was held in which the details of the Digital Kit program were presented, which aims to subsidize the adoption of digitalization solutions available on the market, provided by Digitizing Agents, for small businesses, microenterprises and self-employed people. It was given by Antonio Saravia, corporate deputy director of Red.es.

 

Furthermore, during the celebration of Mobile Week Canarias, Red.es enabled a Digital Kit information point, where the three open calls for the initiative of the Government of Spain to help SMEs in their digital transformation are explained and whose objective is to subsidize the implementation of digital solutions available on the market to achieve significant progress in the level of digital maturity.

The impact of technology on adolescence

Organized by UNICEF Spain, a round table entitled 'The impact of technology on adolescence: reflections, risks and opportunities' was organized. In it, children's rights, protection and participation of minors in the digital environment were discussed and the results of the report on the impact of technology on adolescence were presented. In addition, concrete recommendations were proposed and proposals for families were offered.

The opinions of adolescents who have participated in the report, as well as teachers and members of UNICEF Canarias and counselors, were added to the dialogue.

 

 

Cyber ​​threats to companies

Cyber ​​threats against business environments. How can we defend our businesses? is the name of the presentation aimed at professionals and SMEs. And in which the main ways used by cybercriminals to compromise the security of companies, and therefore, of their information assets and the systems that manage them, were shown.

Miriam Puente, INCIBE Cybersecurity technician, provided tools to identify these cyber threats and thus avoid being victims of them, in addition to providing the necessary action guidelines in case of having suffered an incident.

 

Workshop for the digital transformation of SMEs

Aimed at members, students and professionals from companies and startups, regardless of the sector of activity, the 'Workshop for the digital transformation of SMEs' was also held.

Taught by the National 5G Observatory, it consisted of a work session to publicize the advantages of implementing digital technologies and strategies for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as promoting innovation in the local business fabric by promoting digitalization and identification. of interesting use cases for your ecosystem based on new technologies.
