AV disconnects its Tirajana agenda from the PP of Las Palmas

Yurena Vega Friday, December 16, 2022

Agrupación de Vecinos, Tirajana's party, will run in the local elections in alliance with the PP but in a prudent manner, that is, with distances. At the moment, December is ending and the only thing they have in common this month is not the signing of an agreement to renew the same candidacy but a Christmas dinner at the Aeroclub.

The PP of Tenerife has imposed in Las Palmas a candidate who has been on the verge of entering Nueva Canarias to the point that she is part of Román Rodríguez's European fund management circle in the Ministry of Finance. The appointment of Jimena Delgado would distance the PP from obtaining a government majority in the Cabildo of Gran Canaria at the height of the rise of the popular party in the national polls. The local elections are earlier, in May 2023. The general elections, in theory, in December 2023. This would fulfill the wishes of the Tenerife PP to have the Gran Canaria PP subjected to a corner of the electoral ring waiting to receive blows from adversaries.

The deputy director of Mechanism and Recovery and Resilience (MRR) of the Government of the Canary Islands implies that the PP is moving away from familiar faces if it wants to form a government in the city of Las Palmas. The news in the PP and on social networks has gone down badly, because on the Las Palmas popular bench there were more powerful names to lead a change of sign. The decision of the PP of Tenerife to take to the mountains leaves AV with a free hand to act.
