This is the third municipal budget that goes forward in the mandate of Mayor Conchi Narváez, since due to the pandemic, for more than two years, there was no possibility of its approval as public activity was paralyzed in all public institutions in the country.
One of the most important decisions for the reactivation of our municipality is to project expansive public spending, and therefore, carry out actions to have improved public services at the level of Tirajan residents, updated to this new technological era. and ecological transition, and with a recovery of public investment, exceeding 9 million euros.
In a breakdown, the municipal budget for 2023 contemplates, in Chapter 1 (personnel expenses), an amount of 36.435.440 euros, with the increase included in the General State Budget Bill for 2023, estimated at 3,5% more.
For its part, chapter 2 (current expenses on goods and services) stands at 45.153.576 euros.
Almost 10 million euros in real investments
Breaking down the 2023 accounts, it should be noted that real investments amount to 9.827.000 euros , with a total of 15 different items included in the Investment Plan.
Among these, we highlight 1.726.592 euros that are allocated to the regeneration and urban renovation of publicly promoted housing in El Pajar, those located in San Fernando de Maspalomas, in the ´Las Llaves´ Urbanization (Phases I and II), as well as in those located in Grupo IFA.
Another of the most relevant actions contemplated in the 2023 budget is the conditioning and improvement of public works and infrastructure, which amounts to 3.652.000 euros.
The municipality's children's recreation and leisure areas will experience a substantial improvement, since 2.200.000 euros have been allocated for the reform and renovation of the playgrounds distributed throughout the municipality.
The Plan for Asphalt and resurfacing of different roads in Maspalomas, Playa del Inglés and Campo Internacional is also continuing, with a budget of 1.489.000 euros.
It is important to highlight the mobility and sustainability actions undertaken by the municipal government group. In this sense, the reform and conditioning of the bike lane is included, for an amount of 484.000 euros.
Unanimous agreement with unions and staff
The mayor defined this as “a progressive budget that provides continuity to last year's budget so that the growth of the municipality is greater year after year.”
He continued by arguing that “in the face of the way of governing HR, the previous 10 years of the opposition, based on imposition without dialogue with the unions, we have been able for two consecutive years to have the unanimous agreement of the union organizations to the "It's time to approve this budget and the staffing table, an issue that they could not do previously."
Conchi Narváez pointed out that “we have increased our commitment to health, education, and equal rights for our young people, boys and girls.”
During this term, he continued, “we gained credibility as a city council. "The economic and management data are improving and we are recovering the confidence of suppliers, because we are reducing our average payment period to suppliers, from more than 300 days to half."
Likewise, “we are drastically reducing irregular contracts and the debt with historical suppliers from the previous government has been reduced to less than 1,5 million euros, from the more than 16 million euros we received three years ago.”
Municipality with the highest economic growth
He announced, based on the forecasts, that “San Bartolomé de Tirajana will be one of the economies that can grow the most in the period 2023 – 2024, if the situation caused by the war does not worsen, and the city council, with these budgets, is pushing and supporting to facilitate this.”
“We are involved in working for and for our citizens to, little by little, improve security services, care for young people, education, for equality, for small businesses and our tourism sector, for staff of this administration, for the improvement of our streets and roads, for the improvement of the oldest homes and developments in the municipality, for the digital transformation of the Administration and, above all, for being the best intelligent and sustainable tourist municipality in the Canary Islands and of Spain,” said the councilor.
Conchi Narváez, on her own behalf and on behalf of the entire Government Group, stressed that “this budget that we have put forward today is evident, objective proof that with dialogue, work, coordination and, above all, with honesty and transparency in management , this Government group materializes the commitments assumed with the society of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.”
