The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council has awarded the same company that supplies UNWTO approved destinations to develop an augmented reality plan in the south of Gran Canaria. Therefore, it will be the first destination on the islands with this promotional tool. The Covid19 pandemic has generated a high demand for this type of promotional tools in growth and development. 

The augmented reality experience in the tourism industry has been favored, above all, by the digital transformation of the sector and, in general, of society. From the south of Gran Canaria the destination will be promoted on smartphones, massive and easy access to the internet and geolocation are the main factors that have promoted AR in travel. We cannot also forget the changes in mentality and behavior, as well as the new trends in user consumption habits. 

The objective is to apply augmented reality applied to the south of Gran Canaria to efficiently manage resources and build a place that meets the needs of travelers and tourists, as well as improve and improve the quality of life of residents. In short, there are many opportunities and benefits that technology, and specifically AR, brings to the tourism sector. In fact, more and more smart areas offer digital tourism or smart tourism.
