Defense: INTA base in Maspalomas gains weight for the US and Norway

Kongsberg, the company specialized in military components, has taken charge of controlling new services from Norway that are provided from the INTA platform in Maspalomas. To do this, a new 5-meter antenna will be put into operation, installed in June 2022, at the base in the south of Gran Canaria. Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT), not to forget that the Secretary General of NATO is Norwegian, and the US-based satellite operator Maxar have extended and expanded an existing contract related to data reception and control of Maxar's existing and future Earth observation satellites.

The National Institute of Aerospace Technology hosts these services with an antenna at its ground station in Maspalomas. In the future KSAT plans to add more. From Maspalomas Kongsberg will run the KSAT ground station network that spans over 25 locations around the world. KSAT will build two new stations in Australia and in Maspalomas to support these plans. The antennas are controlled from KSAT's operations center based in Tromsø, Norway. "The contract will strengthen the company's position as the world's leading provider of services related to satellite operation, data reception and control," a source from 24 Kongsberg told Maspalomas3H.

To this end, INTA will expand its capacity and global coverage by declaring a new 5-meter antenna operational in Maspalomas. "Cooperation with Maxar is important for KSAT and this contract strengthens KSAT's position as the world's leading provider of ground stations as a service. The reception and control of satellite data is a key competence for KSAT," says a company source. chaired by Rolf Skatteboe, President and CEO of KSAT.

The National Institute of Aerospace Technology hosts these services with an antenna at its ground station in Maspalomas. In the future KSAT plans to add more. The antenna on this ground station is also the first of KSAT's next-generation virtualized architecture, capable of serving KSATmax and KSATlite customers. The addition of the antenna is a new site and a new latitude for KSAT. "We are very happy to particularly add this antenna to this ground station, as it represents an increase in our capabilities in many ways. The new antenna allows us to provide an even better service offer to our customers," said an aerospace source linked to the project.
