Farewell to Lieutenant Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral

This Monday, January 9, the Mogán City Council has organized the institutional farewell of Lieutenant Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral, commander of the Main Post of the Civil Guard of Puerto Rico, who is retiring from working life after forty years in the Benemérita, being a twenty of these in Command of Information, Intelligence and Judicial Police Units. The municipality of Mogán has been its last destination, providing service since 2019.

 

The event, held at the El Mocán Cultural Center, was chaired by the mayor of Mogán, Onalia Bueno, who said of Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral “he is a man of consensus.” “He is a person who every time we speak tries to reach a consensus with all parties, from his superiors to his inferiors, and whether he likes it or not, he transmits security as a person and as a leader,” she stressed. Furthermore, he took advantage of the occasion to reach out to the honoree in the new life he is beginning. “We understand that we have to take advantage of this experience, background and training from the Mogán City Council to continue building the municipality and society,” he noted.

The president of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Entrepreneurs of Las Palmas (FEHT) and director of Operations of Gloria Thalasso & Hotels, José María Mañaricúa, also participated, expressing his gratitude to Rodríguez del Moral for “the closeness shown these four years in Mogán with all the businessmen, being innovative.” Mañaricúa made reference to the WhatsApp group created by the lieutenant with all companies in the sector, “where we can all show concerns in real time.” Also "the meetings continue throughout the year in which the Civil Guard shows us the rules that affect security in tourism and allows us to explain our problems."

For his part, Rodríguez del Moral was grateful for the farewell organized, in which a video was shown with images of his professional career and the mayor presented him with a commemorative plaque “I am excited, these have been forty years that have been complicated, and the terrible initials,” he said, also thanking the person who pushed him to be part of the Civil Guard and who was present in the auditorium today, Andrés Guzmán. The lieutenant did not forget his wife, present there along with his two children. “All the things that I have achieved, if it had not been for this loyal companion that I have, would undoubtedly not have been possible. We are talking about endless days, days away from home. My priority was the Civil Guard, not my family. So I am very grateful to him for being by my side,” he said. 

 

Regarding his last years on the job, in which he served in Mogán, Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral has pointed out their complexity due to the COVID-19 pandemic and also the migratory crisis. “People in the face of adversity grow and unite and I think that's what happened to us,” he said, referring to the mayor as well as the first deputy mayor and councilor for Citizen Security, Mencey Navarro, and the head of the Local Police of Mogán, Jorge Alemán, also present. “We form a good team based on respect,” he said. 

 

Juan Manuel Rodríguez del Moral has been supported in his farewell, in addition to the people already mentioned, by other members of his family, friends and authorities such as Javier García, prosecutor of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, the honorary consul of Norway in Las Palmas , Odd Are Tveit, the councilor of Social Policy, Tania Alonso, the councilor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Mercedes Díaz, the vice president of the FETH and general director of Be Cordial Hotels & Resorts, Nicolás Villalobos, the financial director of Gloria Thalasso & Hotels, José Ignacio García Rolland, the Operations Director of Servatur Hotels & Resorts, the owner of the McDonalds restaurants in the province, Fermín Sánchez, the advisor of SPAR Gran Canaria, Jesús Díaz, the commissioner of the National Police of Maspalomas, Moisés González Vidal, the former commissioner of the National Police of Maspalomas, Eduardo Manuel Caudet and colleagues from the Civil Guard. 

 

The event concluded with a small agape with all attendees.

 

 

A 40-year trajectory

 

At the event, the head of the Mogán Local Police, Jorge Alemán, gave way to the participants and was in charge of reviewing the career of the lieutenant until today. Rodríguez del Moral joined the Corps in September 1983, in Jaén, and since then he has visited several destinations in the Iberian Peninsula and the province of Las Palmas, highlighting his participation in the Rural Antiterrorist Group (GAR) in the Basque Country for nine years. , in the then-known Anti-Drug Group of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas, his leadership of the Neighborhood Judicial Police Team as well as the Team Against Organized Crime of the Canary Islands (ECO), of which he was also the founder. 

 

He was also commander of the Agüimes Main Post, Head of the Negotiation Team in crisis situations and Hostage Taking at the Las Palmas Civil Guard Command, and belonged to the Rapid Action Group, launching and being the first head of the Information Group of the aforementioned unit. Since February 2019 he has been in charge of the Puerto Rico Main Post Command.

 

During his professional period he has been decorated with 10 crosses of merit from the Civil Guard with a White badge and has been named a Knight and entered into the Royal Order of San Hermenegildo, obtaining the decorations of Cross, Plaque and Commandery.
