Data from member municipalities show a notable decrease in the number of unemployed in the last 24 months
The recovery after the pandemic is beginning to be noticed in the Southeastern Commonwealth, where its municipalities can boast of having reduced their numbers, accounting for more than a thousand fewer unemployed people per municipality in the last 2 years.
Agüimes boasts a reduction of almost ten points, thus signing data that had not been achieved in more than a decade; even signing better data than before the arrival of covid. For its part, Ingenio also shows solid data regarding the decrease in unemployment in the southeast of the island, with 1355 fewer unemployed than in 2020, thus going from 28,24% to 19,05%.
However, the greatest decrease is recorded in Santa Lucía de Tirajana with more than 10% less in the number of unemployed and a total of 4240 fewer unemployed in the last 24 months. The mayor of the municipality, Francisco García, has stated that this information would not be possible without the commitment that his government team has developed in Santa Lucía to promote employment policies and SMEs in the municipality, in addition to the support offered by the Island Council and the Government of the Canary Islands. Despite the good data, the first Satauteño mayor intends to further reduce the unemployment rate in 2023.
