The taxi union in Ingenio has begun a series of mobilizations in order to show its disagreement with the management of the Mobility Councilor, Domingo González.
Ingenio taxi drivers have said enough; Through a press release, the Ingenio Taxi Management Radio Association has reported that it will take a series of measures as a form of protest against the lack of responsible vision on the part of the municipality's Mobility Councilor.
In this statement, the taxi sector points out as its main reason for protest the blockage by the area councilor of the proposal for a moderate increase in the urban rate, something that the sector considers necessary due to the increase in the cost of living and of the supplies typical of the taxi activity such as gasoline, vehicle maintenance, taxes...
From the union, they point out that many municipalities in the archipelago have updated their rates adapting to the current economic situation and that, however, in Ingenio the same has been maintained since 2013; a situation that has caused several layoffs in the sector due to not being able to cover the expenses.
The main person accused of this situation is Domingo González, councilor for Mobility of the municipality, who is accused of “exercising an absolutely agonizing and systematic blockade of any type of consensual sectoral agreement.” From the sector they not only complain to the councilor for his refusal to the increase moderate rate, they also accuse him of ignoring taxi drivers' proposals regarding the current organizational model, since it was designed to alleviate the needs that occurred during the pandemic and currently involves an excessive presence of units at the airport, causing the neglect of the municipal stops.
From the sector they affirm that the situation is unsustainable and classify as shameless the councilor's statements where he points to taxi drivers as guilty of the malfunction of a model imposed unilaterally, by decree and "with vices of illegality."
The measures by the sector began this Monday with the disconnection of licenses in the telephone exchanges, a measure that will continue today, Tuesday and that, according to sources in the sector, they intend to repeat Thursday and Friday of next week.
