Turismo Gran Canaria inaugurated the 43rd edition of the Madrid International Tourism Fair, Fitur 2023, one day before with the help of Hosteltur and with the presence of prominent authorities in Canarian politics, through the proposal called Travel Agents Night, which took place this Tuesday, January 17, at the Hotel Riu Plaza España in the Spanish capital with the presence of about 500 diners. This event had travel agents as the main protagonist, as the most important element of intermediation and key for the entire tourism industry. The Night of the Travel Agents It was attended by Antonio Morales and Carlos Álamo, president and advisor of the Cabildo. In addition, also present were, among others: Carolina Darias, Minister of Health of the Government of Spain; Augusto Hidalgo, mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; Onalia Bueno, mayor of Mogán; and Samuel Henríquez, councilor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
The president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria took the opportunity to address this professional sector with the advantages and attributes that the tourist destination of Gran Canaria currently offers and explained why this is the best time to travel to Gran Canaria and get to know its many attributes.
"We are in the best time to visit Gran Canaria," said Morales, before explaining: "A joint effort has been made between the island and local administrations to renew and improve the island's public tourist infrastructure. And we also have a renovated and top-level accommodation facility thanks to the enormous efforts of the private sector. Incentives inherent to our Economic and Fiscal Regime have been taken advantage of to improve quality and services. During this time of tourist stop, a significant effort has been made thinking about this moment, with the aim of presenting our markets with a destination that has improved in recent years. And we have not stayed in the areas with the greatest tourist weight but we have opted for a proposal open to the entire island territory with the contributions of all the municipalities.

The president of Gran Canaria explained to the agents the progress made in terms of sustainability and environmental care, in addition to the enhancement of new products linked to natural heritage, such as that of the Sacred Mountains and Risco Caído. ¨We have conscientiously prepared ourselves for the return to normality, for this specific moment and we count on your help and collaboration to spread the message and attract customers to this island, which I sincerely tell you, now that we are in the season of wild olives, tajinastes, granadillos, almond trees, junipers and jasmines, it is more beautiful than ever. ¨We show our conviction that by working together all the institutions of Gran Canaria, hand in hand with the private sector, unions and civil society linked to the tourism sector, we will be able to continue advancing and opening a new time in which our island is the reference for tourism. of the XNUMXst century, sustainable, digitalized, linked to the territory and culture and socially fair. This is the third edition of this proposal from Hosteltur, a specialized media and leader in Spain in terms of information on the tourism sector, and which is recovering after not being able to celebrate those of 2021 and 2022 due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and, later, of its omicron variant.
At this event, and before a large audience, the agencies received a tribute for the great role they play in distribution and the fact that they have been one of the tourist activities that has been most impacted by the health crisis was valued. Given the closure of borders and the impossibility of selling trips outside our borders, they constitute the segment that later restarted their activity.
As in previous editions, the central focus of the meeting included a gala dinner with entertainment. Before, during and after dinner, attendees will enjoy entertainment with a master of ceremonies and awards will be presented to the agents awarded by each sponsor.
