The community of owners of the old shopping center point out that they have the approval of various investors to completely renovate what was one of the main nightlife complexes in the municipality.
20 million euros is the budget estimated by the community of owners for the complete renovation of the Kasbah Shopping Center, a place that until not long ago was one of the main meeting points for tourists and young locals in search of nightlife.
The area, which until years ago was one of the economic engines of the municipality, is in a state of total decay, the Metro Shopping Center is abandoned and with an approved demolition order and, for its part, the Plaza is sealed off. after various altercations in recent years. The Kasbah is the only one that maintains its activity, but with decades-old infrastructure and fewer and fewer businesses.
The renovation project will consist of tearing down the current structure and, taking advantage of its buildability, building a new facility adapted to current times and with greater accessibility. The project can be carried out after the interest shown by a multitude of investors who see an opportunity to establish themselves in one of the main tourist engines of the Spanish territory.
The president of the community, Javier Alonso, affirms that the negotiation with these investors is going very well and that the focus that is intended to be given to this new venue will continue to be closely linked to nightlife, with several venues dedicated to it. This plans to return to the area its years of prosperity in terms of this type of leisure, so in demand now after a pandemic in which it was one of the main victims.
It is thus expected that Playa del Inglés will recover that nightlife that, due to the age of its infrastructure, has lost over the years to the detriment of other areas of the municipality such as Meloneras, a current reference for nightlife in the south of Gran Canaria. .
