The XVI 'Canary' Brigade, the BRICAN XVI, a body of great influence in the world of tourism in the south of Gran Canaria, celebrates its 15th anniversary this weekend with the opening of the La Isleta maneuvering field, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, although the main event will take place on February 1.
The BRICAN XVI was established on February 1, 2008, making it the "youngest" brigade-type unit of the Army, which has its personnel distributed in different locations in Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, where it is located. the headquarters of its General Headquarters. Despite this youth, the participation of the BRICAN XVI in international missions in countries such as Iraq, Mali, Afghanistan or Lebanon stands out, as well as its presence and surveillance of the Canary Islands within the activities carried out as part of the Land Operational Command.
They also highlight the support work given to society during the pandemic derived from the COVID-19 crisis in Operation 'Balmis', as well as the tracking and monitoring of Covid cases in collaboration with the Canarian Health Service during Operation Mission' Baluarte' or in supporting the palm population during the crisis caused by the Cumbre Vieja Volcano.
