The alleged perpetrators stole a large amount of professional and other specialized material for filming productions, the value of which amounts to more than 50.000 euros.


The criminal group had a clear distribution of functions, since while one member carried out surveillance activities, others perpetrated the criminal offense, even having a person in charge of logistics and driving the vehicles.

 

The Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of the Las Palmas Command within the framework of "Operation Zorro", proceeded to the dismantling and arrest of five members, all of them men, aged between 16 and 44 years old with a extensive criminal history, for the commission of several crimes of robbery with force inside, crimes of theft inside vehicles, attack on a law enforcement officer and drug trafficking. The detainees managed to steal a large amount of specialized professional material for filming film productions, electronic computer systems, advanced construction tools and consumables from different companies, the total value of which amounts to more than 50.000 euros, events that occurred in the Arinaga industrial estate in the municipality of Agüimes.

 

Knowledge of the facts

 

The Civil Guard became aware of the events during the afternoon night of December 18 to 19, 2022, all of them committed in the Arinaga Industrial Estate, belonging to the municipality of Agüimes (Las Palmas), through the filing of several complaints in police units of the Civil Guard, both at the Agüimes Main Post and at the Las Palmas Command. From the beginning they pointed to the participation of an organized criminal group specialized in the assault on industrial estates, and after the detailed police technical inspections and analysis carried out by the investigators in the attacked companies, it was possible to obtain relevant data on the identity of the alleged suspects. authors.

For all these reasons, the investigating agents designed an operational service device aimed at determining the authorship of the criminal offenses described and the composition of the criminal group involved.

 

Start and development of research 

 

The agents carry out the appropriate investigations to locate the alleged perpetrators. The actions of the criminals took place in an area very close to each other and in a specific and determined period of time, which led to the belief that it was a criminal group, with a clear distribution of functions, since while one member was carrying out surveillance activities , others perpetrated the criminal offense, even having someone in charge of driving the vehicle intended for the transportation of the stolen belongings, storage and logistics, later arranging to sell the stolen objects on the black market and in businesses dedicated to the sale of products. secondhand.

 

Likewise, it is worth highlighting the violent robbery that occurred inside a closed area, as a result of which a large amount of specialized professional material for the filming of television productions was stolen, belonging to a Spanish company that had made the recording in the Canary Islands of a series for a well-known subscription streaming service, and whose value of the stolen material amounts to more than 45.000 euros, including computer equipment, monitors, batteries, hard drives and digital storage devices, the damage caused to the company by the theft being of filmed digital material of high value, the complainant valuing the losses caused to the company in relation to four full days of work at more than 320.000 euros, and also caused serious damage to the other companies that were victims of the crime.

 

Entries and Records

 

After a few intense days of investigation, the Civil Guard gathered the necessary evidence to recover the stolen objects and, where appropriate, the arrest of the alleged perpetrators of the events.

For this reason, in coordination with the competent judicial authority, 4 homes located in different municipalities of Gran Canaria were entered and searched, proceeding to the arrest of five people, all of them belonging to the criminal group investigated, in addition to the recovery of much of the stolen material, obtaining numerous evidence of conviction related to the criminal offenses investigated, and dismantling the aforementioned group, where some of its members stand out for their extensive criminal history.

The detainees, along with the proceedings carried out and the evidence found, were placed at the disposal of the Investigative Court No. 1 of Telde.
