It is the first time that images of the cells moving in the Maspalomas Pond have been released. Condylostoma are a genus of heterotrichum formed by large ciliated cells. The genus was discovered in 1826 and more than 20 species have been described since then. They are mostly marine, but some are found in freshwater lakes. Morphologically they are large cells with a buccal groove approximately ⅓ of their total length and are covered with cilia that grow from their longitudinal kinetic rows.
