The Agüimes Carnival, one of the most famous in the Canary Islands for its unique combination of tradition and modernity, will open the curtain on the 'Gran Musical' – the allegory chosen for this year – next Saturday, February 11. For three weeks, until March 5, the streets of Agüimes will once again be filled with costumes, parades, dances, laughter and merriment, generating the atmosphere of healthy fun that usually distinguishes this celebration in one of the most carnival-like municipalities of the islands.

The program, announced this Friday, will start on the 11th with the inaugural parade and the burning of the spirit of the lizard, an act in which the mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, will offer the town's welcome to Don Carnal, thus marking The festivities have officially begun. The first highlight of the program will arrive very soon, on February 14, 15 and 17, with the 39th edition of the Murgas Contest. As usual, the stage of the Plaza del Rosario will exude intelligent humor, fine retranca and a lot of good vibes, hallmarks of the Agüimes Carnival, to once again delight the local public, always faithful to their date with the murgas.

Another important event will be on Saturday, February 18, with the celebration of the Day Carnival in Playa de Arinaga. From 11:00 a.m. to 20:00 p.m. there will be children's activities, a pet costume contest, concerts, parades, and a festival. Tuesday the 21st will be the day of tradition, with the always fun Old Carnival, in which the traditional mascaritas, in addition to dancing, will be able to taste the carnival tortillas, anise and rice pudding that they used to in the past. to sweeten the carnivals in all the towns of the Canary Islands.

Wednesday the 22nd will be the Burial of the Sardine, but it will not be the end of the party, which will continue for a few more days with very attractive events, such as the one that will take place on Thursday the 23rd in the Plaza del Rosario. The Chirimurga del Timple will perform and later you will be able to enjoy the fun of the Cádiz Carnival, with a sample of the best of the Falla Theater: comparsa, romancero and authentic Cádiz chirigota. The following Saturday, February 25, the streets of the historic center will be bustling with activities for the Street Carnival, which will combine parties, exhibitions and contests with performances by Henry Méndez, Lucrecia, Los Salvapantallas, Aseres and the K-narias, among others. .

The Agüimes Carnival events will continue from March 1 to 5 at the Cruce de Arinaga, with the Plaza Primero de Mayo as the epicenter of the activities. The complete program is available for download and consultation on the municipal website, www.aguimes.es.
