Podemos and Izquierda Unida will compete together in the elections to all the institutions of the archipelago: government, councils and city councils
Podemos and Izquierda Unida have reached an agreement to compete together in the May elections. Both parties already joined together in the 2019 elections, but only in the main Canary Islands cities.
The parties describe this agreement as historic, stating that it seeks to offer “unity as an antidote to uncertainty.” The two parties emphasize the need to work together ahead of the elections, which will be held in just over three months.
In joint statements, both parties leave the door open to the union of Canarian progressive forces to this agreement, stating that “the doors are open to everyone.” They also describe their union as “a firm step towards unity.”
During the coming weeks, news is expected from both parties in the southeast of Gran Canaria about their candidates and if any further changes are expected at the municipal level.
