A slight rise in temperatures was expected at the beginning of February, but a new DANA and a cold front coming from the peninsula have not only prevented this rise, but have also reduced temperatures in a large part of the island and the archipelago. even causing snowfall in Timanfaya.
Yesterday early afternoon, it was advertised that DANA had generated a new line of cloudiness that would enter Gran Canaria in the late afternoon, causing rain in the southeast of the island. An accurate forecast, since during the night locally moderate showers were recorded in various areas of the southeast of Gran Canaria such as Vecindario.
These inclement weather conditions have been much more intense in high areas and in the north of the island. During the night there were snowfalls and on Sunday hail fell in Tejeda, causing the road that connects the town to Pinos de Gáldar to be cut. In the upper area of San Mateo, specifically in Los Llanos de la Pez, -1,6 degrees have been recorded, the lowest temperature of the year in Gran Canaria.
It is expected that during the week the temperature will remain below minimums, with weak and moderate rains depending on the area of the island. In addition, a new DANA could reach the archipelago at the end of the week, although the AEMET states that there is still no concrete data about this new front and that the information will be expanded in the coming days when more data is obtained.
