The Court of First Instance number 5 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has determined the date of the eviction of a block of flats in Castillo del Romeral. This measure responds to a complaint by the banking entity Caixabank, claiming ownership of the building.
According to the neighbors themselves, the building was in a state of total abandonment in 2014 and 2015, the year they entered the building. They claim that they did not use any violent method to access the homes since they did not even have doors or basic elements such as vessels or windows. The neighbors have also made clear their intention to pay both a social rent and completely acquire the homes in which they have resided for almost a decade.
The current residents of the building claim that they have enabled the block with their own resources and that they have made a living to survive without electricity and water; They also claim that they have tried to contact the authorities to notify their presence in the building and be able to regularize the situation, but that they have been ignored in all their attempts.
The eviction order has been set for February 15 and the neighbors have already made their position clear: they do not plan to leave.
