They have been installed this week on Alcalá Galiano (Playa de Arinaga) and Arrorró (Cruce de Arinaga) streets, two roads where speeds higher than those permitted are usually recorded.
Since this week, Alcalá Galiano streets, in Playa de Arinaga, and Arrorró streets, in Cruce de Arinaga, have a new tool to prevent vehicle traffic at speeds higher than those allowed. These are two new information radars that will allow drivers to know the exact speed at which they are traveling. The objective is that they serve to raise awareness and deter those who exceed the established limit.
Experience shows that this type of device serves to alert a high percentage of drivers who, usually due to inattention, do not realize the speed at which their vehicles are traveling. The indications on the panel take immediate effect, reducing the average speed of traffic by up to 25%.
Its function is merely informative and preventive, not sanctioning. The radars have been installed on two roads that usually register speeds above the indicated limit of 30 km/h, with the consequent risk for pedestrians, mainly schoolchildren, who frequent them to go to their educational centers.
Its placement, which will soon be complemented with speed reduction systems on the asphalt, is due to the citizen proposal that was chosen among the projects to be implemented under the participatory municipal budget initiative. The investment, financed entirely by the Agüimes City Council, has amounted to 7.783,18 euros.
