Promotion of traditional costumes by FEDAC and the Entre Amigos association

 

The Minister of Industry, Crafts and Commerce, Minerva Alonso, visited today, together with the mayor of Telde, Carmen Hernández, the Jinámar traditional costume creation workshop that, through a grant from Fedac to the Entre Amigos cultural association, is to make a collection of typical clothing for both women and men from the 21 municipalities of the Island, which can also later be exhibited at different times and places, since the financial aid covers the acquisition of the mannequins and the corresponding display cases. 

 

The objective, as detailed by the counselor, is also to publicize the workshop itself in this Teldens neighborhood in which several seamstresses from the area work on request so that they can increase sales and "promote the integration and labor insertion of these women while promoting spaces for dialogue and collective construction.” 

 

 

And, in these workshops, women in difficult situations of integration will be taught to make these and costumes and then sell them to order and, even, the fabrics will be made with six old looms. 

 

The initiative is part of Fedac's policy that has been committed for years not only to promoting its internal program but also to strengthening the work of associations that work for the defense and dissemination of traditional culture such as Entre Amigos, which "is especially important for "know our cultural heritage and be well dressed when appropriate," explained the counselor, who added the possibility of "being able to reissue it in other municipalities."

 

The mayor of Telde, Carmen Hernández, highlighted for her part "the importance of this project not only to protect and disseminate traditional culture, but also as a generator of employment and social cohesion." And it will be in the workshops that this group has in the Jinámar civic center (former Management) where several women seamstresses will make the costumes that will then be exhibited to offer “a trip through all the municipalities of the island through their traditional clothing ”.
