The councilor highlighted the high training of the SEIS and the UME, “so our society must feel that they are in the best hands”

Members of the Fire Fighting and Rescue Service (SEIS) of San Bartolomé de Tirajana are carrying out different rescue exercises for victims of traffic accidents these days with members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME).

This morning, Mayor Conchi Narváez attended their development and was able to see first-hand the high level of preparation and coordination between both bodies.

“Being permanently trained and knowing the latest intervention techniques in different scenarios is vital to saving lives. And in this aspect, the society of our municipality must feel that they are in the best hands," highlighted the councilor, who also thanked and valued the collaboration of the UME, "whose national and international prestige in action in disasters of different nature is unquestionable.”

With this simulation training action in a real environment, the aim is to develop professional skills in the event of traffic accidents, where release from prison must be used to rescue the victims, putting into practice a work methodology in which the safety of all those involved and those affected are always present.

In joint exercises, experts put into practice the different professional roles within a firefighting intervention team and the optimization of coordination between the components (command, technical team and medical team).

As indicated by Julio Umpiérrez, head of the crew, "the ultimate goal is to guarantee that the injured person is cared for by the health services in the best possible conditions, at the same time that we acquire greater skill in the handling of release and rescue tools."

They are also trained in the need to assimilate the importance of good psychological care for the injured, as well as putting into practice standardized operating procedures in rescue in traffic accidents.

These exercises and drills are part of a knowledge exchange plan with the UME where later it is also planned to work on USAR rescue and surface water rescue.
