The president of the Cabildo, Antonio Morales and the mayor of the municipality, Francisco García, have inaugurated the Police Security and Improvement Center
Santa Lucía de Tirajana is making its debut. Antonio Morales and Francisco García have inaugurated the new police training center, a facility attached to the Santa Lucía municipal police station, just behind the town hall.
Representatives of all the State Security Forces and Corps and councilors from other municipalities on the island attended the presentation to learn about the innovative facilities that place the Satauta municipality as a reference in police training within the archipelago.
The Police Security and Training Center has a gym, training classroom and a new shooting gallery with the latest technology in lighting and shooting targets. In the presentation, the new taser weapons that the police force will have and cameras that will be attached to the officers' clothing and that will be activated when using said weapons were also announced.
The biggest novelty of the inauguration was the presentation of the software Virtra; an American program that until now was only available to the Mossos d'Esquadra and that will test the abilities of the agents, confronting them through virtual reality with various situations that they could face in real life.
Francisco García and Antonio Morales highlighted the synergy between the institutions they preside over and the Santa Lucía Local Police Corps, which has made the development of this project possible. According to the President of the Cabildo, the total amount of the project amounts to more than 600.000 euros, an expense of which he claims to be proud since “it provides answers to citizen security and the protection of the rule of law.”
The Local Police of Gran Canaria has offered the use of the facilities to all police forces on the island.
