The Agüimes Carnival enters its second week of activities in style. The 'Great Musical' will multiply the desire to party with the celebration, this Wednesday, of the Burial of the Sardine, one of the most anticipated events that will once again bring together pro carnival goers through the streets of the town, eager to fulfill the tradition. to say goodbye to Don Carnal with the mourning he deserves. Despite the certain grief of widows and widowers, the spirit of the carnivals will continue to live on for a few more days to the delight of one of the most carnival-loving municipalities in the entire Canary Islands.

Thus, the fun will continue on Carnival Thursday, a holiday in the municipality, with a tribute to the Carnival of Cádiz. With the 'Chirimurga del Timple' as a luxury aperitif, the stage of the Plaza del Rosario will be filled with jokes, fine irony and intelligent humor thanks to the show that will bring to Agüimes the best of the Falla Theater of the Andalusian city: romancero, chirigota and comparsa.

The intense carnival program also reserves a new murgas meeting for Friday. The night will be completed with the tribute to Elvis Crespo and the traditional carnival festival, which will end with the election between the participants of the Lagarta and Bastona awards. It is a decades-old tradition that helps encourage neighbors and visitors to express their imagination in search of the most original costumes.

The second big event will arrive on Saturday with the Carnival of the Day. After the resounding success of last Saturday in Playa de Arinaga, the historic center of the municipality is expected to once again bring together thousands of people in an atmosphere of healthy fun. From 12:00 noon there will be exhibitions, attractions for all ages, street performances and concerts on up to five different stages distributed throughout the town. The public will be able to enjoy live music from Lucrecia, Henry Méndez, Las K-narias, Aseres, Los Salvapantallas or the 101 Brass Band, among others. You can also have a laugh listening to the different murgas in the town or participate in the fun high-heeled race, only suitable for strong ankles.

The festivities will continue on Sunday with a children's dance, a family costume contest, and a gathering of children's carnival groups—three activities for the youngest attendees that will bring this busy week of carnival celebrations to a close. The Agüimes Carnival will then move its festivities to Cruce de Arinaga the following week, from March 1st to 5th. The complete program is available for download and viewing on the municipal website, www.aguimes.es.
