The San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council convened the General Security and Technical Prevention Table this afternoon, ahead of the celebration of the Maspalomas International Carnival 2023, 'Latin Rhythms', which begins next Thursday, March 9, coinciding with the activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU), in the alert phase and which will end on Monday, March 19.

The meeting was chaired by Mayor Conchi Narváez, along with senior officials from the different institutions linked to the areas of citizen security, health, emergencies, transportation, cleaning, etc.

The Special Security Plan contemplates all aspects related to a massive event like this, in which more than 250 thousand people are expected to attend.

All of this entails a reinforcement of troops, controls and services both in the field of road traffic, reorganization of public transport services, surveillance in the areas where mass events will be held, coastal areas, avenues, etc.

“We will activate all our resources with the aim of guaranteeing tourists and residents a festival where civility and public order prevail,” said Narváez, who announced that “greater public attendance is expected, after returning to normality after the celebration.” in the month of June last year's carnival, as a consequence of the pandemic.”

The most sensitive events, in terms of number of people gathered, the time of celebration and their duration, will be the scheduled nighttime riots, as well as the Great Parade, which will take place on the evening of Saturday, March 18, the event most crowded of the festivals.

A massive, safe and inclusive carnival

Narváez showed the institutional representatives his gratitude and the conviction that this town festival, “like all public events held in the municipality, will be marked by quality, participation, integration, civic and peaceful sense, and security".

From the municipal side, the organization of Carnival involves practically every department of the City Council. First and foremost, it involves the Mayor's office, as Mayor Conchi Narváez herself oversees this event, along with the departments of Local Police, Fire Department, Cleaning, Parks and Gardens, Roads and Works, Civil Protection, Transportation, and Festivities.

All of them coordinated jointly with the representatives of the institutions present at today's technical meeting: Local Police, Firefighters, Civil Protection, National Police, CECOES 112, Canarian Emergency Service (SUC), Canarian Health Service (Maspalomas Health Center ) Red Cross, Canarian Police and the Global transport company. (FEHT), among others.
