The southern area of ​​Gran Canaria regularly suffers acts of vandalism, an uncivil event that affects neighbors, tourists and the environment of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

 

Acts of vandalism have increased exponentially in Maspalomas in recent times; a great evil that mainly affects public furniture, representing an expense for all citizens and a detriment to the attractiveness of the municipality.

 

From assaults on apartments destroying furniture to indiscriminate attacks against the kiosks of Playa del Inglés, the attacks are various and do not respond to a specific vandal profile. Many residents of the area attribute these acts to “drunk tourism”, while other residents of the area affirm that the vast majority are young people who return from partying and “to have fun with friends” carry out this type of act, destroying furniture. public and even cars parked on the street.

 

Concern increases with the upcoming celebration of the two biggest festivals in Maspalomas: Carnival starting on March 9 and Gay Pride the first week of May, two festivals of international prestige, bringing together people from many countries in the streets of Maspalomas. Maspalomas and, although they represent days of celebration in the municipality, they also tend to be a source of possible conflicts and vandalism, which is why a special security device will be required which, in the case of the carnival, has already been announced and will be will be in charge of ensuring the well-being of the carnival-goers and the residents of the municipality, avoiding any type of vandalism.
