The Southeast Fair continues to consolidate its support for producers and artisans in the region

 

The Southeast Fair returns from March 10 to 12 to Carrizal de Ingenio, thus consolidating “the important support for the primary sector and the artisans of the three municipalities” of the Southeast region, said today the mayor of Ingenio and president of the Commonwealth from the Southeast, Ana Hernández.

 

As in the post-confinement editions, the municipalities of Ingenio, Santa Lucía and Agüimes will have 50 stands each where producers and artisans from each locality will have the option of displaying their products and selling them directly to the attending public. In addition, the fair will have space for various NGOs to report on their projects and a bus for hemodonation.

 

The mayor of Santa Lucía, Francisco García, highlighted that the Southeast Fair is now “a consolidated event, not only in Gran Canaria, but throughout the Canary Islands”, the result of the “good work” of the three municipalities that make up the Commonwealth that, “In an agile and effective manner”, they work towards the objective of promoting the southeast of Gran Canaria and “highlighting the customs, traditions and identity of the region”.

 

 

The mayor of Agüimes, Óscar Hernández, spoke in the same sense, defining the fair as “a sample of what we do in the Southeast region” that also makes visible “the essence of the joint project to change the reality of this region.” ”.

 

Extensive program of activities

 

The president of the Commonwealth highlighted the importance of the Fair for many producing families in the region and stated that “just the presence of the producers is already an attraction for the island.” However, she recalled that the exhibition of products and crafts is also accompanied by an extensive program of activities, which confirms the commitment of the Commonwealth of the Southeast to the citizens.

 

 

Among them, the gastronomic workshops of 'Cocinando el Sureste' stand out, with great restaurant professionals who will teach visitors how to use local products in their most traditional recipes, but also in contemporary cuisine.

 

In addition, there will be several tastings of local products such as oil, bread, salt, olives, snails, pastries, tomatoes, wines, cheeses... a great opportunity to learn first-hand about the quality of the product. grown and made in the region.

 

On the other hand, as in all editions, a space will be allocated for the livestock exhibition, but this time there will also be high school equestrian exhibitions and trained dogs, equine exhibitions, donkey rides, and drag and threshing exhibitions.

 

The children will also have several sessions of Theater of the Island Songbook 'Borondona and his friends' and other children's activities. During the weekend, cochineal workshops and traditional games will also be held by various folkloric groups such as Coros y Danzas, Llanos Prietos, Guayadeque and La Revoliá.

 

Another of the highlights: musical performances by La Trova, Los 600, Los Sabandeños, Los Salvapantallas, Los Gofiones, Vocal7, Conciencia Urbana and Yeray Rodríguez and, for the first time, a musical show by five women - Goretti Benítez, Luzmila Valerón, Ayla Rodríguez, Nereida Peña and Maite Medina - who, together with El Colorao, will perform 'Coplas de Mujer'.

 

 

Like every year, the Southeast Commonwealth will present its awards to the artisans of the region, to value their work and the legacy they leave for future generations.

 

It should be remembered that all activities are free and open to anyone who wants to come to the fair during the weekend to learn about local products, taste them in a good atmosphere and even take home a sample of local crafts.

 

In its 19th edition, the Southeast Fair is trying to catch up and recover its annual periodicity, interrupted in 2020 and 2021 due to confinement and, in general, the pandemic that prevented its celebration for two years. However, in recent editions the Southeast Fair has recovered its splendor, so the Commonwealth of Southeast hopes to once again reach the numbers of more than 100.000 visitors during the weekend.
