The troops cannot patrol the streets because they do not have the medical examination that enables them to use weapons.

The members of the Local Police of San Bartolomé de Tirajana currently have their mutual contract expired, making it impossible for them to undergo the medical examination and weapons inspection tests, which qualifies them to use of fire devices. As the candidate for mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana for the Canary Coalition, Alejandro Marichal, explains, “some members of the security force have encountered this impediment when joining after a leave of more than 3 months, after which "They must undergo a psychological and medical study for the use of firearms."
The Contracting service, a body dependent on Human Resources of the city council, has let the contract with the Mutual Fund expire and is currently preparing the specifications for the tender for the contract, so "it is very likely that during the month of March our officers must work from the office, which is very worrying given that the Maspalomas International Carnival begins on the 09th of this month and will have to take place with fewer agents on the streets, which is very alarming given that the service is already minimum number of agents.”
It is unknown why the contract was allowed to expire without automatic renewal, nor when the service will be in operation again.
