The yellow team is positioned in the German and Nordic market as a top-level option for the preparation and training of professional teams
The Las Palmas Sports Union is present at the ITB in Berlin, one of the main tourist fairs in Europe, together with the Gran Canaria Tourism delegation, as part of a project to internationalize its brand and expand, in which the The yellow team's facilities are positioned as another attraction on the Island to attract top-level teams for their preparation and training, something especially interesting for teams from Germany and Northern Europe during the winter break of the competition. UD Las Palmas was already present at the last edition of the World Travel Market in London.
Patricio Viñayo, general director of the Gran Canaria team, was received by Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo and by the Minister of Tourism, Carlos Álamo, at the German market meeting and they welcomed the yellow project with great interest since "the brand of the UD It has a very interesting diffusion power for the destination,” as Álamo recognized.
"After passing through the World Travel Market, this week we are at the ITB in Berlin, since both the British and Germans are two of the most important sources of tourists and this fair also coincides with the dispute of the Canary Islands derby of the second round, so we are going to organize a party, 'WatchParty' that we organized with LaLiga, to watch the match in Dusseldorf and we are having a presence at the Gran Canaria stand to continue promoting the idea that anyone who visits us has the opportunity to see football in one of the best leagues in the world and we hope that next year it will be in the First Division.”
The UD manager explained that these promotional actions are directly connected to the project for the second phase of the Barranco Seco Sports City, which enhances Gran Canaria's candidacy as a venue for the 2030 World Cup. “It is a project that "We presented at Christmas before the first swords of the three administrations and everyone celebrated the possibilities it opens for visitors to carry out their training on the Island."
Viñayo pointed out that the facilities will offer, in addition to a greater number of natural grass fields, a complementary accommodation plant at the foot of those fields to be able to find the perfect combination in a sports preparation stage, both in the summer and winter periods, with the most "High performance to attract the most important teams in Europe, which need the benefits of our climate for ideal preparation."
The presence of the Gran Canaria group at the Berlin fair values aspects of customer behavior on the Island, such as the fact that more than 50% of German tourists visit the city of Las Palmas, making them an attractive market for ticket sales and other experiences such as the stadium tour.
In Germany, the leagues carry out a winter break from the competition due to low temperatures that lasts approximately 20 days. Many German teams choose Spain as their destination for their winter preseason, which usually lasts between 10-12 days. The renovated facilities of Barranco Seco are an attraction for these teams, since they are looking for first-class sports facilities and ideal weather conditions for practicing sports. In addition, Gran Canaria has very good direct air connections with more than 20 cities in the German country.
Dry ravine facilities are also an option of interest for professional and amateur teams during the summer period, either to develop their preseason, technical training and hold tournaments.
Participation in the ITB favors the internationalization of the brand thanks, among other things, to the meeting with companies both for “business to business” B2B (tour operators, travel agencies specialized in sports tourism,…), “business to customer” B2C (professional and amateur soccer teams) and the search for institutional collaborations with Turismo Gran Canaria, TourEspaña, the economic and commercial office of the Spanish Embassy in Berlin; in order to help expand the club's image in Germany.
