The mayor of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Francisco García, and the Councilor for Equality, Minerva Pérez, defended the importance of working for equality and combating discrimination and violence against women with preventive work in the municipality's educational centers. The political leaders defended the work carried out by the Equality Commissions of the educational community during the Institutional Act on the occasion of International Women's Day, held this Tuesday night at the Cine de Sardina Cultural Center. The singer Thania Gil provided musical accompaniment to the event in which the City Council recognized all the people who work in educational centers in favor of equality.
The mayor, Francisco García, highlighted that "only through personal commitment will we be able to break the sexist attitudes that put barriers for thousands of women in the various spheres of life." García added that “we must be deeply ashamed of events such as those recently uncovered, where politicians vote in the morning against pimping and prostitution and at night they take advantage of prostitution or pay for it in exchange for favors, in a intolerable and unforgivable exercise of demagoguery.” The first mayor congratulated the Equality Commissions and Teams of the Educational Community that were awarded at the event and thanked “the work that the municipal workers do throughout the year from the area of equality to fight in our city.”
The Councilor for Equality, Minerva Pérez, listed “the multiple expressions of inequality that continue to occur in our society such as the wage gap, the triple shift for women, discrimination against migrant women, women from rural areas or attacks. and violence that women continue to suffer daily for being women.” Pérez recognized the work carried out by the Equality Commissions of the municipality's educational centers "which are responsible for creating and disseminating educational protocols, plans and programs that facilitate the work of teachers in matters of equality, because they serve to develop actions that prevent discrimination or violence against women.”
