The AV-PP candidate in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez, has given instructions to his technical team to set up a shadow government group starting this April for the local elections on May 28. The residents' measure is intended to "not waste time in local operations for the transfer of powers in June." That is to say: AV-PP is preparing the local government without PSOE. Political sources from the south of Gran Canaria in AV-PP did not want to assess the matter this Tuesday.
The shadow cabinet is a team of senior spokespeople with municipal expertise to reflect the takeover of powers from June. Each shadow cabinet member is appointed to lead a specific policy area for AV-PP and to question and challenge the current local government group. In this way, the official opposition seeks to present itself as an alternative government in waiting.
The cabinet is the team of approximately 20 potential senior councilors who are chosen by Marco Aurelio Pérez to lead specific policy areas such as tourism, environmental services, transportation, seniors and employment. The shadow government group will be made up of AV-PP's top names to "help mobilize members".
The pairing scheme will see leaders assigned responsibility for places where AV-PP are believed to need to add weight ahead of the May 28 election. AV-PP core team members will now work individually with designated target areas. It will mean a senior figure will be on hand to offer top-down support, and they are expected to make a series of visits during the campaign period to sectors that have been treated poorly since 2019.
