New social housing in Arguineguín, El Horno, Motor Grande and Veneguera in 4 years

 

The Mogán City Council has launched its first housing plan that contemplates the construction of VPOs in the neighborhoods of Arguineguín, El Horno, Motor Grande and Veneguera between now and 2027, thus benefiting the most vulnerable families.

 

The mayor, Onalia Bueno, has presented the roadmap that the City Council is following at the El Mocán Cultural Center, in an event before the media that has also been broadcast live on local radio television as well as on the official profile of Facebook of the Consistory.

 

“It is a challenge that this Government group has set itself due to the failure of the public housing policies of the Government of the Canary Islands,” he stated, recalling that in August 2020 the plots of land attached to the Social Services building in Arguineguín, a in El Horno and another in Veneguera were transferred to Visocan, dependent on the Government of the Canary Islands, precisely for the construction of social housing. However, nearly three years have passed and, he says, “they have not drafted the projects.” 

 

Therefore, given that the established period of five years to allocate these lands to the promotion of VPO will not be met, the City Council has decided to take the reins directly, requesting the reversal of the transfers to Visocan, which has accepted those corresponding to El Horno and Veneguera. On the contrary, the transfer of the plot in Arguineguín is still in place, which will finally build a development although it will be the City Council that will manage it. 

 

The strategy undertaken by the City Council has begun by carrying out geotechnical and topographical technical studies and drafting projects in Veneguera, El Horno, Arguineguín and Puerto Rico. “We draft some projects with our own municipal technicians and others will be outsourced due to the volume of the works,” the councilor noted. 

 

The main objective is “that all the residents of Mogán have access to decent housing and avoid the exodus to neighboring municipalities,” said Bueno, who has had the support today of María de la Salud Gil, president of the Association of Construction Entrepreneurs (AECP).

 

In Arguineguín, as mentioned, the land is located in the Pino Seco area, specifically on Damasco Street next to Servicios Sociales. A building with 21 homes and their corresponding parking spaces will be built there.

 

But these will not be the only new VPOs that will be added Arguineguin in the next four years. In Loma de Pino Seco, where several developments of these homes are already located, the entity that owns the land has agreed with the City Council to build 60 homes of 70 square meters with a storage room, 68 parking spaces for cars and 12 for motorcycles. Bueno has reported that the Loma de Pino Seco Partial Plan is very close to being approved, which will allow the unlocking of the land for the construction of these homes. Also the completion of the drafting of the project by the company. “We hope that the works will begin this year,” he said, emphasizing that it will be the private entity that will build the VPO developments and that the City Council will manage them. 

 

En Veneguera, the plot has 1.266 square meters. It is located on La Cardonera street and there the construction of 20 homes with a garage is proposed. For its part, in the neighborhood of big engineSpecifically on Zaragoza Street, the land covers 6.000 square meters, including 60 homes with parking spaces. Lastly, in The oven, the plot is located on Tajinaste street, where 10 homes will be built, also with a garage. 

 

“This is undoubtedly the first part of the housing plan that we want to extend beyond 2027 and reach every corner of the municipality,” said the mayor, who accompanied her presentation with a video showing the land as it is. and how they are now and what they will be like in four years with the VPOs already in place. 

 

Regarding financing, Bueno pointed out that "there is a lot of money coming from Europe, many calls from the State to which local administrations can opt and other alternatives that the law offers us." 

 

 

Mogan 2023 – 2033

 

At the event, the first mayor also presented the future that is projected for the municipality in the next 10 years. “This is how we want to see and plan Mogán from the City Council, because we need infrastructure in accordance with the development of the municipality,” she pointed out. “We are already on it. There are projects drafted and others that are pending completion. There is work done and administrative procedures channeled for quite some time,” she said. 

 

The City Council intends to achieve traffic decongestion with the bypass on the GC-200, which is planned to be approximately 2 kilometers long and two lanes. In this way, vehicles heading to La Aldea would not have to cross the historic center of Mogán and they would stop passing through the narrow San José street, where today homes and establishments suffer the ravages of the traffic of large tonnage vehicles. 

 

This improvement would be added to a new link between the Red Cross area and Drago Street and the launch of the new parking building, already under construction. Actions aimed at improving and facilitating visitor access to the town.

 

Thanks to all this, it would be possible to pedestrianize the main axis of the historic center, achieving a safer and more pleasant environment. Pedestrianization is established from San José Street to the beginning of the Los Llanos area.  

 

Respecto a Mogán Beach, in the area where the municipal soccer field is today, a large sports complex is planned with stadiums, swimming pools, multi-sports fields and areas for practicing outdoor physical activity. This is planned to be complemented with an underground parking lot and the conversion of the road between the current bus station and the beach – Carretera Vieja and Avenida de Las Artes – into a rhodonal street. 

 

On the other hand, the rehabilitation of La Puntilla or 'Muelle Viejo' is planned, with a viewpoint, sunroom and decking area and improving access to the sea, in addition to connecting this area with Taurito through a maritime avenue. Finally, it is desired to intervene in the area known as 'La Caletilla', where both residents and tourists enjoy the sunsets, to convert it into a leisure space with urban furniture that invites leisure and rest. 

 

 

Regarding these last two actions, the mayor has reported that the respective projects have been presented some time ago to the General Directorate of the Rib and the Sea to obtain the relevant authorizations.

 

En Puerto Rico, improvements are expected to place this center at the forefront of the tourist areas of the Canary Islands. On Tomás Roca Bosch Avenue, from the roundabout located next to The Market and Mogán Mall shopping centers to its intersection with Las Palmeras Avenue, traffic would be underground to put an end to traffic jams. In this way, the main artery of this tourist urbanization would become pedestrian, giving way to a large boulevard with rest, children's and bio-healthy areas, and a bike path. 

 

 

 

En Arguineguin, which concentrates the highest percentage of the municipality's population, the construction of VPOs is planned both in the wedge of land attached to the Social Services building and in Loma de Pino Seco, where a large number of these are already located. 

 

 

In the surroundings of the new parking building, specifically on the 8.000 square meter public plaza generated on its roof, there is already a building that will be used to hold cultural events of all kinds and that will be launched after the summer . But the creation of the Mogán Arts and Studio Center is also contemplated here, which will bring together in its facilities the municipal library and the headquarters of the Mogán Artistic Schools in the town. 

 

Next to the IES Arguineguín, the construction of a sports pavilion is planned, which will be part of the growth and improvement of the sports facilities that the Consistory aspires to. The entrance to the municipality through the seaside neighborhood will undergo a radical change with the construction of a large sports city with a stadium and soccer fields, paddle tennis courts and courts for practicing other disciplines, as well as an Olympic swimming pool, among others. 

 

 

The second and third phases of the Paseo Maranueñas-Anfi will be launched, thus continuing the improvement of the seafront, which can already be enjoyed in the Costa Alegre area and on the recently rehabilitated El Perchel beach. In addition, it is intended to carry out the rehabilitation of the streets and homes of the seaside neighborhood, where pedestrians would have priority over vehicles. Regarding the latter, Bueno has indicated “it is a need for which the project is being drafted, which is quite ambitious. We are talking about an investment of around 10 million euros, because there are more than 300 homes.”
