The children's area of ​​the Cruce de Arinaga Urban Park, the largest in the Southeast

 

The Cruce de Arinaga Urban Park will soon have the largest children's play area in the entire Southeast of Gran Canaria and one of the largest in Gran Canaria. There will be almost 3.000 square meters of play area, double the previous surface, thanks to the comprehensive rehabilitation works that are being carried out on the site and which are expected to be completed within a period of six weeks. The project will involve a total investment of 1,6 million euros, financed 51% by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, through Institutional Cooperation funds, and 49% by the Agüimes City Council.

 

The president of the Island Council, Antonio Morales, and the mayor of the municipality, Óscar Hernández, presented this Wednesday the work, which is progressing at a very good pace and which presents interesting construction novelties. The most unique is the use, for the first time in the Canary Islands, of a modern permeable pavement mesh that contributes to blurring the border between the garden areas and the living areas, making the entire space become a play area and creating a sensation similar to that of being in an open field, in the middle of a rural environment.

 

 

 

The Cruce de Arinaga Urban Park was built 21 years ago, in 2002. Before the renovation works, its children's play area had an area of ​​1.400 m2, of which only 15% was occupied by play elements. Its real usefulness was limited to about 200 m2. Furthermore, the passage of time had deteriorated the street furniture, reducing its functionality and penalizing the image of the environment. With the project currently underway, the space completely changes its appearance, doubling the available surface area and considerably multiplying the possibilities for fun for boys and girls. Due to its strategic location, close to the GC-1 highway, very close to the residential area, next to the Fairgrounds and with a large pool of public parking, the new playground is destined to become a reference space for families not only of the municipality, but also of the entire region.

 

The project also contemplates a general renovation of the park's facilities. Lighting, accessibility, pedestrian routes, living and shade areas, perimeter fencing and landscaping are improved. Distinctive elements also include the provision of two public picnic areas, intended to facilitate outdoor children's celebrations, as well as a small amphitheater, which can be used both for possible celebrations and for municipal cultural programming. The civil works are being carried out by the TMR Construction Workshop company, for an award amount of 835.000 euros, while the supply and installation of the new children's games is carried out by Juegos Kompan, with an award budget of 751.140 euros.
