It will begin in mid-April, serving an average of 70 families from the municipality that until now were served in Santa Lucía, facilitating their access to the service.
Cancer patients and their families, residents of Villa de Ingenio, will have access from mid-April to a closer, specific and free psychosocial care service launched by the Ingenio City Council through the Department of Social Services and which It will be provided by the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC). This was made known by the mayor, Ana Hernández; the Councilor for Social Services, Elena Suárez; and the president of the Provincial Board of the AECC in Las Palmas, Fernando Fraile, at the presentation ceremony held this Tuesday, March 28.
According to the mayor, some 70 families from the municipality, who until now were served jointly in Santa Lucía, will benefit from this service that is now approaching them, avoiding travel and facilitating access to it. “This service is of great importance for people and their families who face this disease, accompanying them throughout the process in the fight to beat cancer. We believe it is necessary to be at the side of these families to offer them the services and tools that are within our reach to do so,” she stated.
The psychosocial care service will be provided once a week in a space located on C/ Maestro Valle, provided by the Ingenio City Council in coordination with the 'San Isidro' Senior Center in Carrizal, and will be borne by both of a psychologist as well as a social worker since “a cancer diagnosis does not only include the disease, but there are other aspects that do not facilitate the process and that must be addressed,” added the Councilor for Social Services. “More socially vulnerable environments, economic situations, family conflicts are aspects that from social services and from the community level we understand that they require units and services like this one based on that diagnosis, but looked at from an interdisciplinary work perspective,” expressed the mayor. .
In this sense, the provincial president wanted to emphasize that it begins with this close care and support service but that the AECC has many other benefits at the island and provincial level, implemented thanks to the contributions of its more than 12 thousand members/ as, which users could also benefit from. “The beginning will be to serve them from a psychosocial perspective, but over time, if it is necessary and there is a request, the services could be expanded so we have a philosophy of continuity,” he commented.
