It seems that summer temperatures are here to stay in the archipelago. The AEMET was not wrong in its warning that it predicted temperatures more typical of summer than spring during the last week of March and the first days of April; The forecast came true and since last Monday the temperatures have been constantly rising, hovering around (and exceeding) 30 degrees.
This was the case in Tasarte, which yesterday, Wednesday, far exceeded 30 degrees Celsius, reaching 37,7 degrees. This record temperature places Gran Canaria as the hottest spot in Spain. The rest of the island, and specifically the south, was not far behind. Maspalomas recorded only two degrees less than Tasarte at 35,7 degrees, thus entering the top 10 for highest temperatures nationwide.
This circumstance has caused the yellow heat warning to be extended until Friday in Gran Canaria. It is not the only alert for meteorological phenomena that is on the island right now, along with the extreme heat warning there is a warning for haze and wind, which could reach gusts of 80 kilometers per hour. These weather conditions have also activated the alert for the risk of forest fires. Regarding this, Antonio Morales has declared that “all devices are in place in case any circumstance arises that requires their presence.”
The institutions have issued recommendations to citizens such as staying hydrated, going outside as little as possible if you suffer from a respiratory condition and not leaving loose objects on terraces and balconies.
